Finally received my new camp/survival knife today...very excited!

I wanted something for belt carry that would fill the gap between a big chopper and a small bushcraft knife; as close to a "do all" knife as I could get. Enter the Fallkniven A1.

Hailing from Sweden, it is their army's official survival knife and for good reason. This blade is stout, the handle feels very ergonomic and very grippy, and the edge came absolutely wicked sharp! The fact that it is made of VG-10 steel was a huge plus for me as I don't want to have to worry about rust in a survival situation. This is definetely not an inexpensive knife, but after reading and watching several reviews of this blade I am convinced it is well worth the money. You really can feel the superior quality and craftmanship just by handling this thing.

I'm also really glad I opted for the Zytel sheath instead of the wide, thick leather one because I found that a Maxpedition pistol magazine pouch fits perfectly around it. I've always been a firm believer in having a multi-tool with you and this setup ensures that I will always have my knife, my Victorinox Swisstool Spirit, and a firesteel on my person even if I get separated from my pack.

Side view...still a fairly thin setup.

Very nice knife. I just got an Esee but may possibly purchase a Fallkniven in the future. They look to be very spectacular knives. Use it well my friend

Quality through and through. You won't be disappointed. Thanks for the tip on the Maxpedition mag pouch. I am going to copy your setup. That is sweet.

Fallkniven makes an excellent fixed blade their factory edge is incredibly sharp also I think someone did a D-test ( not that it realy matters) on the A1 and it proved hard to break.

I'd also like to own an A1, but not with the zytel handle and painted finish. Looks nice and I think it is a very practical woods blade.

That and if you watch a couple of the other d-tests the knives which ended up lasting a little longer often take literally twice as long to chop, cut, baton, etc. It's like an SRK on steroids with the good blade geometry instead of just a thick slab of steel with an edge and pretty micarta handles.

jonnyt16, Looks good in the pictures but what keeps that multitool pouch from sliding right off the bottom of the sheath? The Fallkniven sheath tapers towards the bottom so it looks like that Maxped sheath could easily slide down. Might want to glue some self stick velcro to the FK sheath and to the back of the Maxped to prevent that loss. I don't care how tight those wrap around straps might be, it will eventually slide off. Better safe than sorry. Remember Murphy's Law.

I was also wondering ...what keeps the Maxp from sliding down the sheath?

I also own the Fallkniven A1. It's a great design. I have the SpecOps combat master sheath for mine instead of the stock zytel.

Should be easy to do some taught 550 from the sheath's belt-loop to the pouch's strap so that it can't slide down and will give you some extra 550 cord.

Alex, yes, with a bit of force the pouch does slide off the bottom of the sheath. Believe me, there's no way I would've headed out in to the field like that. I literaly just received the knife and realized the pouch option just before I took the photos but had already begun thinking about a solution for a more secure attachment. Paracord or zipties is what popped in to my mind first but I also like your velcro idea. Thanks!
