I got my byrd cara Cara yesterday in the mail, and I've used it quite a bit since then. Here are my observations...

The Knife: Spyderco's Byrd Cara Cara, g-10 handle, plain edged blade.
The Price: $31.95 total (including shipping) from the Knife Outlet.
The Observations: The fit is great, with no gaps or rough spots between the G-10 and the steel liners. The G-10 feels good, with no burrs or rough edges. The pocket clip came blackened, and hasn't faded or moved through heavy use. The screws that hold it are also blackened, and haven't loosened. The hole in the blade is large enough to open it with gloves on, and this is considering that I have large hands. The lockback is slightly notched, like a bowe lockback, and it holds in place until you depress it. There's no "accidental" releasing of the lock mechanism.
The blade came shaving sharp right out of the box. I used it to cut rope of various lengths and open cardboard boxes, and it was still shaving hairs off my arms. After about an hour or so of whittling with it, the blade wasn't able to shave, but it still sliced a sheet of paper cleanly down the middle. The blade resharpened quickly with a normal E-Z Lap diamond stone. Overall, this is a great knife worth twice the price. I'm thinking of ordering a half-serrated one now.

My question to the people who already own a Cara Cara is, what's the most you'd pay for one? Let's say that Byrd or Spyderco jacked up their prices; how much would you pay before saying "That's too expensive for a Cara Cara?" I'd pay about $60 for one.

$60 ???

i got a G10 medowlark. it cost 20. yea you could say that i would pay 40 for it.
but 60 beans is alot for a byrd and might as well uprade to spyderco just for the name alone.

...but assuming spyderco also jacked up... i'd go shopping for another brand thats in my beatter price range

dont get me wrong, i love spyderco... but im just sayin
