Hi,

I think I found a new way to carry a MercHarness (Disclaimer: this is not a real MercHarness in the pics, just a homemade rip-off) :
having it hanging from your waist.

some pics being worth a lot of talk :
- here's what it looks like worn over a T-shirt (you can tuck it in your waistband to keep it from moving around):

- and now under the shirt (you still can see the black paracord through the T-shirt :

- being used under the shirt, hammer grip :

- same, but reverse grip (the Spyderco Swick almost looks like a karambit in this grip) :

- once removed, it simply looks like that :

- to put it in place, you just have to pass the sheath through the free loop and block the loop between the sheath and the paracord :

I'm thinking about adjustment system for people who would want that, but all I can think of add bulk to the system. tying a knot to the end of the loop sounds like the best I have found yet, though it requires to size the paracord a bit longer than needed, for having a knot in fully deployed position.

Some good points :
- very discreet though easy to access
- quick and easy to go from over the shirt carry to under the shirt carry, or vice-versa. I use this a lot in winter, when I carry a sweater a lot but sometimes have to remove it.
- quick to put on
- you choose where you want to carry it, only at the waist height

Some bad points :
- for short blades only (I tried this with a 5" bladed spyderco/perrin fixed blade, it's just an invitation to questions like : "is that your knife or are you happy to see me?")
- for thin or athletic people only. If you're 5', 300 lbs and the pounds don't come from weightlifting, I'm not sure it will fit you
- compresses a bit the abdomen when breathing (I think better fitting would induce looseness too).
- you choose where you want to carry it only at the waist height
- awkward to adjust

Please tell me what you think of it, I'm open to criticism.
(and please tell me if I'm not the 1st one to think of that system)

Nope, that one is all yours

Thanks! That's what I thought at first, but the ability to carry it about like a (non-adjustable) MercHarness was apparently enough to say it was just a MercHarness worn in another way, that's what I understood from the replies I had on USN.
I removed the photos where I wear it like a MercHarness when I got the replies accusing me of that.
the photos were this one and that one. You can see that I didn't totally come up with the system myself, but only the idea of carrying it on the hips.

BTW I progressed further in my quest for a good system for my Spyderco Swick, I now have the sheath inside my pocket, with a system like Hideawayknives' Ripp Cord or Sheath Sticks, but with a safety pin on a bit of paracord, attached to the bottom of the pocket.
This carry has less problems than the hip carry, although it's not as quick to draw.
