I got this 2011 Manufactured Case 7254HP SS Equestrian knife with Rosewood covers while in Ceaderville, CA yesterday. The closed length of the knife is 4 1/8". The clip blade is 3 1/4" long while the Hoof Pick is 3 1/8' long at the point of the pick. The fit and finish is first rate and the clip blade is very sharp out of the box and ready to go to work. Case really did a great thing by bringing this pattern back into their line. The Rosewood covers on this knife are very attractive.
In all the years I've been helping out on the local farms and ranches around here, I've never seen anyone use a knife like this. Most guys just use the blade of one of their pocket knives to clean out a horse's shoe/hoof, etc.. We do have a mobile Blacksmith who goes from farm to ranch to shoe horses but the only thing I've ever seen him use for a pick was a piece of bent wire sharpened to a dull point.
