New Case fall 2010 promotional products catalog

I'm lovin' the Stag Rancher #5347 CV. Saw a couple of these Ranchers at BLADE, and they looked great.

Those BackPockets- yes please! All 3 versions look gorgeous. If the actual knives come out looking anywhere near as good as the pictures they've put out so far, Case is going to have another home-run hit on their hands.

I'm looking forward to the rough-black synthetic. I love the synthetic Cases. These don't have the as-ground blades like the jigged brown synthetic or the American Workman series (which I like). I'll be getting a slimline trapper in rough black, at the very least.

I'm not too crazy about the "branded" stag thing. It looks nice, but as another member (can't remember who it was) recently posted, the idea of burning stag with a laser just doesn't seem right. Lasers and stag don't really mix.

As a collector, I'm also looking forward to the zytel peanuts. I'm going to go on Case's Facebook page and ask them about all the bolsters on the hawkbill pruners though. Pruners should be barehead.

Andy, with a CV stag #47 pattern, I'm not too worried about the laser, even though I know just what you mean.

The one I REALLY like is the raindrop slimline trapper with Wharncliffe secondary. What a great combo of beautiful, slender blades! Probably be close to the cost of a Bose/Case collaboration, though, at around $200, but hopefully not.

I've been dying for a stag and CV series from Case, so I might be able to overlook the laser etching. As it is, I like the fact it is up by the bolster, and really doesn't seem to stand out that much.

Just out of curiosity, is the medium jack the same size as the small texas jack?

Forgive my lack of Case knowledge. Is the Humpback Stockman something new? Can't say I've ever seen one before. I really like the spear point and swedge.

Thanks.
Chris

Not sure. The pattern # is the same, 032, but the catalog lists it at 3-3/8" when the 032 pattern TJ is actually 3-9/16" (mine at least, actual measurement). I would guess it's a typo in the catalog, and it actually is the same size.

From a Case spokesman:

"The '032 pattern is officially 3-5/8" in closed length, per our
engineering docs."

As for the damascus Mill. Trapper, Case is only making 100 of that pattern, as well as the damascus Slimline.

No, It's not a new pattern. According to Casexx.com it was introduced somewhere around 1915.

Yeah, theres some really nice stuff in this catalog; my two favorites are the rough black humpback stockman and the image xx Greek key swayback gent.

Its an old pattern that is "new" again. It was made up into the 1920's but was discontinued before about 1934. Never made again until it was retooled for new production and reintroduced within the last two years.

The Humpback Stockman is a very useful knife indeed, sunk joints make it an ideal carry.

I like the look of the new Olive Green Bone, Texas Jack would be the one I want from that range. The pinched&threaded bolsters add interest too.

It may be modern, but G-10 looks really well suited to a Traditional knife. It is superb on the Slimline Trapper, all that pattern look better Barehead in my view.actually, most knives are better that way! I need more of their G-10s, the Humpback Whittler tempts....

I very may well get one of the stag CV peanuts. As much as I love the 'nuts, I go a bit nuts over stag.

And surprisingly, I like the looks of the 58395 mini copperhead. It looks like a very nice edc knife.

Carl.

I agree with every single thing you've said here. Black G-10 is my favorite Case handle material at the moment. All of my black G-10 Cases have excellent fit & finish. I really like the "as-ground" blades, as opposed to the tumbled and polished blades on most other Cases. Supposedly it's the "lower end" finish, but I prefer it. I polish mine down a bit with Simichrome, and they look great. The grinds & swedges are much crisper, and blade action tends to be better as well.
