Liked the look of and style of the G10 handled version pictured in latest Knives Illustrated magazine cover story. Ordered one and got it yesterday. Beautifully MIRROR polished handles, end caps, and spine springs. However, all of the blades look completely unpolished with tight verticle grind lines you can feel with your fingers running the length of each blade. They don't look that way in any of the photos in the adds, or online. Looks as if no attempt to polish the blades was made at all.

Anyway, i'll be calling Case first thing Monday morning, but wondered if any of you have had a similar problem with Case lately.

I also purchased one of their Desk knives . Beautiful! Red bone handle. 154CM steel blade so beautifully polished you can see yourself in it. Nice addition to the desk and makes opening mail really fun.

Thanks all,

The g-10 version comes with "as ground" blade finish,it is suppossed to go along with the rugged ,edc workmans image of the knife, all the other models have mirror polished blades.myself I like the as ground blades because of the look and the fact that they resist scratches that look bad on mirror poliched blades.to each his own though.

Thanks for the input Matt. That makes sense to me. My first Case purchase in many years. The workmanship, fitting and action on the knife is really first rate. They did take a "lot" of care in finishing the rest of the knife as stated. If the blade finishes were not "by design" it would be strange.

Thanks again

I haven't looked at the humpback, but I have a couple of Case knives with blades as you describe. IIRC they were from their working knives category or something like that. My first response was "what the heck?" then I decided I liked them.

I really like the look of the new Humpback series and am planning to get the G-10 whittler at months end. Every Case knife I have purchased in the past 5 years has really shown excellent fit/finish and very sharp, if somewhat rough, edges.

You are 100% correct above. Just spoke to the nice folks at Case. The G10 scaled Humpback Whittler is indeed shipped out with the "As Ground" Working Finish on all blades, so all is well. Marks and scratches on the blades disappear with a quick light rub of 400-600 grit sand paper. There were a couple very small ones that are now totally gone. Nice. I will now proceed to use the hell out of it. It's a very nice piece of equipment.

Maybe I'll have to get me a Stag or Bone Handled (FULL POLISHED BLADES) one for those.... formal occasions. We do have a disease, don't we? A very fun one!
