(I'm working on the means to post a pic soon.)
I recieved a handsome custom lockback from Gene Osborn http://www.centercross.com/
I had previously purchased (from stock) a great scale release from Gene and saw a pic in his gallery of a lockback he had made with silver wire inlay done by Allen Eldridge. I wound up ordering a similar one.
Gotta say I'm very tickled with this new one. A medium size, ROCK-solid lock, hollow ground clip point blade, satin SS bolsters, mirror polished internal liners and lock, fiddle-back maple scales with a vine pattern wire inlay. Allen did a real nice job. gives a period look to a modern knife. Gene did a light file dress all the way around the liners and spine- not enough to busy it up or detract from the wire inlay. Added a small plain round thumb stud that doesn't look out of place. Really a nice looking package.
Apparently, Gene and Allen have been friends for some time and are now in some kind of shop-share symbiotic arrangement. This is my first custom that is not sole authorship. I've stayed away from tag-team knives out of fear that the artists' concepts might crash head-on or something. But that is certainly not the case here. Gene turns out an impressive array of knives from miniatures to tactical and dressy, folders and fixed. Allen has been making knives for quite a while and has some additional talents like wire inlay and scrimshaw.
Great folks- Great work
I look forward to seeing more from both Gene and Allen.

UW,
not easy to describe but here goes:
the 2 halves of the knife handle pivot a very small amount (at the blade pivot) to release the blade from closed and same to unlock from open position. locks open-locks closed same way.
Think of it as holding the closed knife with your thumb pad on top and the pads of your index-middle-ring fingers on the bottom scale. then a little 'push' with the thumb, and a little 'pull' with the three finger tips to fire from closed to open(or unlock the open blade to close)
very subtle, the total amount of movement is very little.
as far as the technical internals of "how" it works?- I haven't a clue.
I think it might be magic.

Thanks for the info!

Gene, You're welcome.
If you (or Pat) want to post a pic, or link of either of my Centercross knives here -feel free.
My aging PC has been giving me fits. lost a couple pistons or something. I was never able to view the zipfile Pat sent me of the lockback. Bad things keep happening to my harddrive. (I was headed to the city last weekend to buy a new one but got turned back by a snowstorm)
