Was there ever a final conclusion to the chappe story?

Awhile ago there was a thread about changing the sharp and pointy chappe on the khuks. Was anything ever decided on this?

I must say I'm impressed at the skill of this new leather guy. Plus the quality of the leather seems to have improved. Have we seen the last of the hairy scabbards?

Aren't they what the cowboys wear:rolleyes: :p

I think the conclusion Uncle Bill came to was to go with status quo, because removing them is an easy fix. And with new village sarki's work the end of scabbard is fine as is. That's it as far as I Know

Ha-hm.

Being the lazy and inattentive person that I am, how does one safely and effectively remove the chappe from the scabbard?

I remember it being mentioned but I'm too lazy to do a search. What lies underneath? What does it look like? Will it just be a mass of laha that needs cleaning? :o

As Uncle said, when you want them to stay on, they fall off and vice versa. None of the chapes on my tooled scabbards will come off. The steel chape on my M43 came off with little effort. The new sarki uses what looks like a commercial epoxy to fit his chapes, and it seems to bond with brass better than steel - the chape on my villager is there to stay.
This new scabbard, without chape, is folded close to the "point", and sewn tightly. The epoxy peeled off almost entirely, and left very little to be cleaned with a solvent. Lexol cleaned off the few specks that remained, and I don't see a need for adding a leather chape unless it would be just for decoration. Lexol, a little touch-up with black dye, and several coats of neutral Kiwi made a slick looking rig. This is just one scabbard - your mileage may vary :)

Bruise just put a little heat on it. The chape should come right off.
If it doesn't them simply heat it up a little more. You can put it over the gas burner on your cook stove if you have gas. Just be careful to keep it in motion from one side to the other to heat it equally.
Use a pot holder to not burn yourself.

Who knows? Only you will after you get it off. It could have a little or a lot.
It might chip off a little better if it's frozen. I would put it in the freezer for a few hours and then see if it would chip off without damageing the leather. Use care and patience.
Most chapes seem to come off with time if carried much, at least a few of mine have.
I've always just glued them back on as I've been to lazy to make a leather chape to use in their place.:)

It's easier to leave things alone than try to change them and we had a mixed bag so follow Bro's advice if you want the tip off.

Good line, Rob. That's why I just stick to tip. (Isn't that what you do to your hat when Kareena walks by?)

I thought it was an alternative spelling of 'chappy' and that we had a new member ;)

What a gal. Thanks, Berk.

The picture brings on a bittersweet countenance and I'm reminded of the old Tony Bennett song, "Beautiful Girl," and the tentmaker's lament, "Alas, that youth should vanish with the spring."

I wonder if the other one looks the same and if it sticks out as
far?

And like Rusty says about joking. I'm only partly joking. I do think she has a funny lookin' ear.:)

Yup. Too much lobe for me too :)

Umm, Uncle. ...

Do women look like that over in Nepal, or is she just the equivilent to our supermodels???

If they really do look that good (even in a tomboy sort of fashion out in the villages), I'd like to volunteer to be a courier for the next HI model submission. I might not come back, but I'll get the model over there for sure.

Actually, going to stay in Nepal doesn't sound like a bad idea... does Gelbu need any help?

Boy am I glad I went through all the new posts today. Great looker, that girl. Nice sheath on her too...

Some of the gals are incredibly beautiful (actually I didn't even notice the ears -- I'll have to go back and take a look but I don't think it would make much difference) and they love to flirt. When I first arrived in Nepal I was 49, black hair (with the help of a little dye), few wrinkles, trim due to a lot of walking and single. There were not that many Americans hanging out in Nepal so I was a novelty and, of course, everybody thought I was rich even tho I had nothing. I was fair game for any gal from 15 to 50 -- the last and best fling of my life.

I think I should take what I have...and my college loan... and retire in Nepal. Yeah, it is the 5th poorest country in the world, they have problems with Maoists, and in the not too distant future maybe a the frontline of a new cold war. But ya know what, I dont mind the ears.:D

Besides, there is something to be said about working with your hands and seeing your accomplishments as to working on a computer and your life's work is burned onto a CD.:(

Pay sucks, but I'll take the grunt work.
