i just got back from NGK yesterday and got the new chinook 3.. i love it. it has replaced the manix as my main carry piece. the thing i love about it the most is is versatility... it is a great SD knife, it is a tank, can handle anything, and is a great utility knife! anyone else own one?

well i hate to say it, but i think i might have gotten another chinook II... i was handed "this knife" i have in my pocket now, and told it was the chinook III. looks like the Chinook II though... flat grind blade... anyways, oh well.. i love the flat grind blade anyways... i am not worried...

The Chinook III has the flat ground blade. I think everything else is the same, but the blade is flat ground on the III.

I cant believe you would start a post called Chinook 3 and not even know if you had bought one or not. How can anyone be this stupid? Are you stoned? I hope so. At least that would be an excuse.

You cant see that was a joke? look at the post directly above. Why dont people think for one second before posting something moronic?

Ok i've read all your posts and you have nothing to contribute to any of the threads. Of all 13 of your posts, at least half of them you have either put down other people or acted like you know everytihng when in reality you don't. So why don't you just keep your moronic comments to yourself if you have nothing to add.

And as for the chinook its a great knife. I have a chinook II and although i haven't used it for any heavy duty, i feel that this thing could take a beating no problem.

I was told by one of the guys at the spyderco outlet that the flat ground version is just "Chinook II" with a flat grind. FWIW.

Most people on the Spyderco forum refer to the knife as the Chinook III. However, Spyderco is officially leaving the name as the Chinook II. I guess they didn't think that changing the grind and general shape of the blade was not worth a new name.

Either way, the Chinook I is hollow ground, the Chinook II is hollow ground, and the Chinook "III" is flat ground.

Sitting here and looking at them side by side, the only difference I see between them is flat vs hollow ground...blade shape is identical...at least in the two that I have.

Chinook III is a misnomer. The knife is still the Chinook II, there only thing changed was the grind, from hollow to flat. I assume it wasn't enough of a change to warrant calling it a third variation(the change from 1 to 2 was quite significant, at least where ergos and weight are concerned).

If you have the Flat Ground Chinook II, than you have the Chinook "III" even though it's an unofficial term.

The change in grind in not considered a variant, much less a model change. So no Chinook III, and not even any "V" designated Chinook IIs for collectors club members.

The flat ground Chinook is still a Chinook II. No such model from Spyderco named the Chinook III.
