I want to get another fixed blade from Chris Reeve, probably the Shadow IV or Pacific. But I'm also thinking about doing something different and getting a Busse. I've always admired them but never owned one. I'm not familiar with the models either. It seems there are many different types.

Which would you get, CRK or Busse?

Depends on what you intend to do, I suppose. If you want a tougher type of knife, then Busses are rather a great choice. The steel on Busses is really quite excellent. I'd go with Busse for that stuff. For a "regular use", which is to say cutting, knife, Busses are quite heavy and overly strongly built. But then, Chris Reeves aren't the lightest knives around either...

You may as well try both and be done with it. It's only a matter of time before you'll give into trying each.
I have both, but prefer CRK. Busse makes a great knife. Most are too thick to cut well for my tastes. My knife's first priority has to be cutting ability. However, there are exceptions. I'm very happy with my Busse Badger Attack Tac.

Oooooh, that is tough as I LOVE both companies knives. And I own knives from BOTH. BUT, with that said I would say go for a Busse.

Sorry for jacking your thread Jedi, but I do have a quick noob question though.
How come busses are hard to find/buy? is it because they are limited productions? collectible? where do you buy 'em?

Since you already have a CRK fixed blade try out a Busse.

Busse puts up a new knife on its main site for a period of time, takes orders for it, and then produces, bills, and ships. It can sometimes end up being quite a wait for one but the wait is well worth it. If you want to buy one right away the Busse Company Store is the way to go.

Do yourself a favor and order and ASH-1 from Busse Combat right now before you are not able to anymore.

Do yourself a bigger favor and order the ASH1 LE with magnum handles. It is thinner and more all-round practical than the Combat Grade.

Agreed.

I have, and love, both CRK and Busse. Can't lose with either one.

But I do like that ASH1 LE.

Did you miss the recent hoopla over the CRK GB in the destruction test? The Busse was the highest rated one to date! I love my mini seb. And I think JohnnyO was right about alot of Busse's they are over built... It just depends what you'll be using them for. From time to time they offer smaller/thinner ones.

If youre really gonna abuse it get the Busse. If you want something for only slicing go with something else!

I did see the test actually and was disappointed, but I don't abuse knives like that. Chopping wood is the max that my knives see. I want to see one of the one piece A2 steel knives tested like the Shadow I. It would do a lot better I think.

I had been looking at the current Busse that can be ordered and I do like it. Seems similar to a Badger Attack. The LE is twice the price of the regular! But it is thinner... And I would prefer a thinner blade that's better at slicing but I don't mind a certain thickness. The Shadow I is very thick at the spine but can still slice with the best of them, probably due to the deep hollow grind over the flat grind on a Busse.

How long is the wait time on Busse orders?

Figure about two week wait.

Then you have to find a sheath. The guy I am getting my sheath from says he is probably 3 weeks backordered but I figure it'll be worth the wait. Meanwhile I am using a cardboard and duct tape sheath made by me.

I love my regular ASH-1. It is not such a great slicer but my smaller knives handle that easily. It is an excellent chopper, however!

I'll second that. My LE has become my favourite all-around blade. Its a phenomenal knife.

What use do you have in mind for the Busse? He makes so many fixed blades that you can get a blade that suits your needs, all are not thick.

Check in at the Busse forum and everyone will be very helpful in directing you to the right knife.

You'll enjoy both the CRK and the Busse. I do.
