That midwatch looks like a great cutting tool. Im excited to get one of those. It would be my first civivi fixed blade. The ODD 22 is named the catalyst 2 was it not? Also a sweet looking blade in green and black.

The Midwatch is interesting!
ODD22 looks pretty nice too.
That wood Baby Banter sure dresses up well!

Yeah I’m loving the idea of a moderately thin stock, full height flat grind, with a tougher steel like 14C28N, Nitro-V, or even 4V or V4E, or 3V! That would make a great little screamer of a slicer. I’m gonna be honest, the most likely victim of this blade is a stick of pepperoni or some other food item.

The midwatch isbohler n690, they are posted on the civivi website. I dont have any experience with that steel. 14c or nitro-v would have been nice.

Interested in that Midwatch depending on the steel. Hoping for Nitro-V.

My top pick would have been 14C28N. The high toughness, good corrosion resistance, and reasonable edge retention make it an awesome choice for everyday fixed blades.

N690 isn't anywhere near as tough but that's not the end of the world. It's in the same ballpark as 154CM, 440C, and BD1N for toughness. Bradford has used N690 extensively in their Guardian series and I don't recall seeing complaints.

The corrosion resistance falls a little short of 14C28N but is significantly better than 154CM or Nitro-V. I don't know how well they heat treat N690 but edge retention is in the same theoretical ballpark as 440C and 154CM. The thinner blade is a good thing too. Overall, not really my style but an interesting development in their line-up.

I've had a couple users in N690 it takes a sharp edge and has decent retention. Easy enough to resharpen and keep it with basic maintenance. No complaints here.
