I really dislike the blade shape of this knife, but that’s besides the point lol. I absolutely love the idea behind this knife! I’m not sure how realistic this feature is to use and I do worry about strength. However, this knife’s adjustability is just too unique and cool to let pass by. If they offer a single sided blade, I’m going to pick one up. They aren’t expensive either. Plus the factory sheath is super cool. They release in May of this year. They come in Nitro-V blade steel.

This may be my first Civivi brand knife! Fingers crossed that the adjustable blade lock holds up to “real world” abuse and that these blades function as intended. This could turn into a dumb gimmick real quick if there are issues. Hell, they might already be a dumb gimmick lol. What do you guys think?

I agree the blade design is not practical..........although the change in knife blade position is a great idea. I would like to see it used in a better blade style.

The beauty of a fixed blade is its simplicity and strength. This negates those two factors while not offering much in return. If you're carrying a karambit for self defense, in no scenario would you ever pause mid fight to straighten your blade in order to execute a thrust. If you're needing a straight blade for general cutting tasks, for one, that blade shape just sucks, secondly, a backup pocket knife would be infinitely more useful, and lastly, a karambit can adequately be used for general purposes in most cases.

That being said, I'm not a martial artist, nor do I have any intentions of getting into a knife fight. I could be missing something, I suppose.

If they sent me one for free to play with , I'd take it . Be glad to ! ;)

But I'd wear some heavy cut resistant gloves or cover / dull the edges to test the thing .

I don't understand how that "adjustable " part works and it looks maybe too easy to activate accidentally , especially during a fight .

You also don't really have a fixed blade anymore here , IMO . IDK how strong this thing is .

The blade design is for some kind of special fighting style , apparently , but WTF is the serrated concavity supposed to do ?

Overall , I'd have to assume this is mostly a sales gimmick , until proven otherwise .

Surprised to see this from WE . How come this ain't a CRKT thang ? :p

I too am a bit skeptical on not only its practicality, but more importantly - its security. I'd like to see more details on what allows it to pivot, and what keeps it locked in place in the karambit position.

I have ZERO interest in this knife, but I still like knowing how things work.

I am afraid this knife might be a candidate for another "Catastrophic Failure" thread.

Look to me like a button lock semi-folding knife. In other words, its just a folder that doesn't close all the way and the blade is kept in place with a button lock mechanism....Or so it appears....

Sounding more gimmicky with each new revelation ! :(

Blade shape resembles very close Tops BackBite, which is actually designed by Russians to be use with specific fighting system. They used to be tons of videos and in the moment Tops started producing it, they disappeared except few US made videos.
That straight to angled grip thing, I don’t know… I would guess whoever designed it have a system to use it with.

Definitely not a knife fighting expert by any stretch of the imagination, but this looks like an overcomplicated solution looking for a problem.

What, you don't think you could tactically capitalize on this double-edged, swing-handled, broadhead-style wedge profile wiggle blade fighting knife with your choice of plain or serrated Tendon Tearer recurved cutting things?

I'm usually a fan of WE and Civivi. This one is misses the mark. It's got an MTech level of "tacticool" but with better materials and QC.

Look, part of what makes fixed blades good as defensive tools is that they are fixed. They don't have moving parts or weak points like folders do. They can be used hard, both at different angles and at rapidly changing angles. The Orthrus ditches that advantage for... a gimmick. Straight up. Oh, it has different positions that alter the overall shape? Why not just make two different fixed blades and somebody can pick the one that works best for them?

Please tell me the idea isn't that operators can adjust on the fly depending on the type of enemy ninjas they are facing...

That blade profile is ridiculous. It’s just begging to get caught on crap or cut you on the draw. If you know how to use knives for self defense, then you know the knives you’re looking for, and it likely excludes this thing.

Exactly that I imagine. So we take the ludicrous idea that you are going to hook or trap anything karabit style in a knife fight. And add that you are going to see the opportunity bend the knife and then hook that limb.

If there is any doubt, here is the designer's video about it. It's only around six minutes.
