Due to the growth of the forum, Uncle Bill and I were playing catch up on forum posts even before the new year rolled around, With his dad's health problems, then his, then a sign of recovery ending with a bout of flu, he's been scarce on the forum, and even a brief reply to email really wears down his energy.

We have thus talked about adding another co-moderator, and sent one name to Spark to consider. Absent any word from him, we'll leave it at that til he responds. I've asked that he be named as co-moderator because to me, Uncle Bill is and will be the HI forums moderator until such time as he becomes Moderator Emeritus. It's his work and philosophy that made this forum what it is: more than just a knife forum - a haven for discussing matters of importance to the heart. And a haven Bill and I want to keep that way.

To mangle Robert Heinlein's Lazarus Long, the only real sin lies in hurting another unnecessarily. ( Or in spouting hate without acknowledging that it is wrong. )

I guess my credo is essentially - First do no harm - and then Gentleness and kindness in turning wrath away. Even those who demonstrate wrath toward others on the forum.

So when the new co-moderator is annointed treat him nicely like the good people who we see so often on the HI forum. And razz him unmercifully ( but always in good taste ). Bruise, I'm counting on you to let the air out of his tires regularly, and countinue the job you've done as court jester. Hit me an Uncle too ( when he's feeling better ) when we show some pomposity.

Sometime today or later this week the new co-moderator will be named formally. Then let's give him the welcome he deserves.

;) ;) ;)

( Or maybe the welcome he has coming? )

:D :D :D

Seems like a good move both for the short term and in the long run. I have my hopes on who it is and thoughts on who it should be if it isn't. Oh well wait on see I suppose. Good luck to all.

Rusty--you are a tease :p

I must say I'm having a very good time imagining different Cantina members in that role :D :D

What's Sparks going to do- run a criminal background check? Or perhaps first clear the guy's capable of sending the case a week of brew Sparks insists upon?

I want to get ready to welcome whoever it is...how do you type that "raspberries" sound???

I suppose I should not have wasted my 700th message on that, but still want to know...

Thanks Bro! ;-) I knew you'd have my back!

No, when I fart it's unmistakable. I do blame it on my four year old though. This outrages him.

I'll have to remember that with my 9month old. Wife doesn't believe it's the dogs anymore :grumpy:

Background check, fingerprinting, retinal scan, DNA samples, and a trip to the Post Office to look at the FBI's ten most wanted.

Uncle and I made sure that despite his surface normality he failled the MMPI. Wouldn't be the same without the insane, here.
:p :p :p

Right before the first rotten tomato flies. Just give us a chance to duck back in from the balcony and lock the door so he can't duck back in. Speaking of ducks, anybody heard from Quakipus?.

I had some emails with him as recently as a couple of weeks ago...

I'm assuming you mean the oh so very, "OLD, OLD, OLD, Quackipuss, aka Tsimi?"

I heard a rumor the other day that he was trading his one legged dancing girls in for dancing girls in wheel chairs because he couldn't keep up with the one legged ones anymore. Poor Old Tsimi, it's a cryin shame it is!!!! :p :( ;)

:D :D ;) :D :D

We need some younger (and stronger!) blood. To do the moderator job right this forum can take 3 to 5 hours per day. Right now I have the time but not the energy. This flu is the worst I think I've ever had. I start the day weak and tired, just like now, and it's downhill from there on. Never had anything quite like it. Yangdu has had it, too, (still got a terrible cough) but has more energy and gets things done -- however, when she is finished up dealing with email, shipping, phone, trying to keep me running she has little time left for forum moderation.

I'm looking forward to the help.

Rusty has done a hell of a job for the past six months but he's no spring chicken himself and is old and wise enough to know when he needs help.

I hope to show up more often and to contribute more but until I can get some strength and energy back that is not going to happen. Rusty is fading trying to do my job and his both so we are looking forward to some help. Both of us will still be around but we just don't have the horsepower to ge things done the way we think they should be done.

Rusty deserves a fine round of applause and he has my eternal thanks for being such a fine gentleman and helper.

Stay tuned. Spark will have to flip a switch or something to make things official.
