Well, folks the freight company pulled a truck up in front of the house yesterday and unloaded my Cobra 14 (14") splitter. It's all set up now and splits like a dream. I ran a bunch of belly leather through it just testing the waters and now have some great workable 2/3 oz. pieces for lining etc.

It will replace my tried and true hand crank Landis 30 6" which I guess I'll sell sooner or later. I want to spend a little more time with the 14 before I say good bye to the Landis.

See photos below.

Paul, is that Landis good for skivving the buckle end of a belt strap from 10oz to about 6oz?

oh, and congrats on your new purchase.

Rick I've done it many times, but it is an even split as opposed a tapered skive so you still have to blend where the split ended with a knife. Conversely a lap skiver or splitter will not give you and even split, so all things considered the Landis is probably the more all around useful of the two. Since the Cobra is motorized, I don't think I'd chance some of the stuff I've done on the hand crank Landis, although once I get really familiar with it, it would most likely be possible.
