The spine of my new CS Master Hunter sits higher than the back of the handle by about .015" and has a rather sharp corner at the transition. I assume this isn't normal and the handle on my example was molded a little too low on the tang. I'm a bit disappointed about this and curious if my example slipped through the cracks or if this is the norm?

I wouldn't worry about it. Master Hunters are a classic design, probably one of the best hunting knives ever IMHO. That little 'imperfection' shouldn't affect its use at all. But CS stands behind their products, so if you consider it a problem send it back to Lynn T. Love my MH in Carbon V.

I think the top of the handle is supposed to be flush with the spine, by design, but the execution isn't always precise. On the one I have the spine and handle are very, very close to being flush, with the blade standing the tiniest fraction of an inch (certainly less than .015") proud of the handle. In my case, the difference isn't enough for the edge of the spine to be bothersome, but I can see how it could be an issue on yours. I'd see about returning it to the seller for a replacement.

My go to hunting knife is a San Mai Master Hunter. Have not handled a 3V one, but no fit and finish issues with mine.
