Which one do YOU carry?

Syn

Well, I'm in the UK, so carrying ANY of these would be out of the question...

Frank.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

You can't carry a knife in England? I wasn't aware of that. How sad for you.

...I'm running out of space real quick(!) - And worse than that, my wife doesn't even know I have them!!! She's noticed a shiny new padlock on the storage box though...

Frank.

It's been a little over one month, and you now have five times as many knives in your collection.

That's just plain crazy to me

Well, as far as I can tell, in this country, knives are for collecting - in the U.S they're for 'Rootin', Shootin' an' Tootin' - or something like that.

They are definitely not for carrying. Unless the blade is 3inch or less and non-lockable, etc, etc.

So in a nut shell, I see it as a hobby. An expensive one at that.

Frank.

Just added;

Case xx Giraffe Bone Tiny Trapper
Gerber LTR Red
Fred Carter Pocket Knife Red

Frank.

Your addiction is getting bad, you might need to go see someone at a knife store about the problem. Pictures would be nice, but then my own addiction might kick in.
Have a good day, but keep the wife out of the storage box.:D
James

I'm writing a database for all my blades at the moment and just using stock foto's - eventually I'll take my own pics...

Frank.

All i can say my friend is go for quality and not quantity.
Each Knife should really make a statement. Being the best in its category.

anyways take care and good luck with the collection

...Thanks for the advice! As with all collections 'new', mistakes will be made... Substitute the word 'mistakes' for 'chinese' (!) I'm still learning about manufacturers and quality.

My leanings have gone from fixed combat-type blades to small exquisite Case xx knives. And almost everything in between. Collections are all about quantity - and quality. The hard part is filtering out (unknown) junk...

We all are quite different in what we collect. I thought i would be a collector and in some sense I am. Overall now i fully understand that i will not buy a knife that I can not EDC from time to time. Therefore now i stick with folders, neck knives & fixed blades which I can carry without feeling out of place. Nothing to big and always a company or a maker i trust. I just got a Spyderco DODO and the thing is always in my hands. It has really suprised me.

Why not get a Spyderco UK Pen knife? Then you would have one you could carry that meets the requirements of the law. You definately have gotten into collecting!!:D:thumbup:

...Because for the price I think they suck! In this country you could be charged for being in possession of a ball-point pen if the copper so wished. You would still need a very, very good reason to carry any UK legal knife at all.

Any way, I'm sure some of my SAK's must be legal...

do what i do, become a certified as a first responder and claim its your rescue knife (very convincing if it has lanyard cutter or window punch or both) works just fine for me

Now I'm no UK lawyer, but I'd bet that if you were 'caught' carrying a 3" lockblade of some type, you wouldn't really get charged with anything. It'd have to be some real jerk of a LEO to make a production out of that.

I'm guessing that law is there so they can add another charge to some doofus that's just broken a bunch of other laws.

If you mean to say that the police would just arbitrarily search someone to check for knife possession and length, that that ain't no free country at all. Not by my definition.

That said... do you mean you just started collecting knives by buying like a hundred in the first month or so? Wow, that's really jumping in with both feet. I'd say go for it, but might want to consider telling your wife. She's gonna find out and when she does you're gonna freak her out a little bit I think.

There was a case some months ago of a Lawyer in the City who was stopped in his car & searched - he had a small SAK in his briefcase and ended up in the cells all night because of the arresting Officer's attitude.

From what I can gather, most of the jerks-in-uniforms don't really know what's legal or not. They don't really care; to them it's just another 'notch'. Seems everyone's guilty 'till proven otherwise...

As to my collection? Yes, I've only been collecting knives for just under 2 months - I'm on my 163rd...

Frank.

PS.

My wife did see a couple of boxed knives I'd forgotten to lock away, a Junglee Saharah Jnr. and a CRKT Cascade. Her reaction? "...How much were those!!" She's only concerned about how I spend MY money. I didn't have the heart to 'mention' all the others...
