Hi folks -

I just got my third knife through the mail this week, so I guess now I officially qualify as having a collection! I've been lurking in here for a while, so thanks to all of you who have influenced my buying decisions, even if you don't know who you are!

I'm trying to put together a collection of "top shelf" knives in each category. So far, I have the Chris Reeve Small Sebenza Classic 2000 as my "everyday carry" blade, a William Henry Lancet Carbon Fiber for my "formal suit and tie" blade, and today my MOD CQD MKII Stealth Tactical Folder arrived - this is now my "hard core tactical" knife!

My next purchase is going to be a fixed blade, and I would appreciate any insight or advice. I'm looking to stay in the same quality/price category as the above, so please no rec's for a $1000+ knives!

Also, I want to give some props to Cory at www.anklepocket.com where I got the MOD MK II - this guy is top notch and has a pretty cool site. Worth checking out if your looking for some interesting stuff, and he's pretty interesting to talk to if you get him on the phone.

Hopefully now that I've broken my silence I'll be able to contribute more to the board. Again, any advice on my next purchase or comments on the growing collection are welcome!

Take care,
- Kevin.

Khawley--welcome to the forums. Your question is pretty broad, and I think you will get a better response if you list more specifically what you are looking for--blade length, handle and blade materials, hunting knife, fighter, survival, etc, as well as custom or production. I will throw out a few suggestions, but take them with a grain of salt as I am a newbie myself.
For a production large fixed blade, the Busse Battle Mistress. For a custom blade in the Sebenza price range or a little above, Jerry Hossom--check out his website for some beautiful knives. Good luck. I am sure you will get a ton of suggestions.

Kevin, welcome to the forums!

Josh is right about narrowing down your criteria for a fixed blade knife. In fixed blade customs, you can pay anywhere from $50 to $5000 depending on maker, materials, and embellishments.

Bob Dozier's knives are a great value (starting around $150) for a great hard working field knives with D2 steel and ergonomic handles. You can see some examples here.

If you are more interested in tactical kinds of knives, look at Bud Nealy knives in the same price range as Dozier's (most models under $300), again at knifeart.

Please help us help you by narrowing the field a little

One again, welcome Kevin (and to you too Josh)

Welcome home khawley .

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

Welcome, khawley. Always nice to have another knut aboard.

Until I read your choices, my first instinct was to suggest that one had to have at least 7 knives before collector status had been achieved. But, your 3 do put you there already. Good taste.

Have fun,
