Hello everyone, I have decided to try a new hobby and I chose the Case brand to start collecting specifically the Hawkbill Pruner and the Slimline Trapper models to start with.

I have found several websites that sale new stuff and I have purchased 2 last week.

So where does a guy go to get older Case knives?

Any advice on collecting in general would be greatly appreciated from reading some of the threads this site sounds like its full of good people, I look forward to hearing back from the group.

Thanks,

Joe

Well lets see. We are limited in what we can recommend here based on who is a paid sponsor. However, you're in luck, because www.collectorknives.net is both a forum sponsor and a great place to find older Case knives.

Also, if you visit the W. R. Case web site, they have a Collectors Club you can join (small annual fee) and if you go to the Dealers link and select Buy Online, it will show you a list of their Master Dealers and Exclusive Master dealers with links to their web sites.

There is always the option of an on-line auction site whose name rhymes with "no way!" Just keep in mind the normal buyer beware advice.

We also have a section here on Bladeforums under the Exchange link at the top where members sell knives to each other. Link: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/f...raditionals-Slipjoints-Old-Timey-style-knives

I would suggest you be very,VERY careful when purchasing vintage Case knives. Study up on them, spend a lot of time looking. Vintage Case Knives are frequently doctored, counterfieted, repaired, etc. You should make SURE you know what you are looking at before paying the premium price that some of the real vintage knives sell for.

I mentioned another vendor in a visitor message on your profile.

Thanks for the advice, I will check out the Case website for the collector info.

I never would have thought about a counterfeit pocket knife, I am probably going to gobble up every new one I can find before I start looking for the older stuff.

Wise words. Old Case knives are about the most frequently faked knives there are. Easy to get taken if you have not done your homework.

Recommendation:
Hang out on the Bernard Levine Forum.

Duly noted, for now I will stick with the new stuff and perhaps keep an eye on this site for a good vintage Hawkbill or Slimline Trapper, meanwhile I believe it would be in my best interest to by some type of identification guide book (if they make such a thing) for Case knives.
