So I’ve decided to get into collecting knives. I’m focusing mainly on vintage pocket knives and have a short list to start with. I’m looking for recommendations on good reference material that is trustworthy. Thank you in advance.

You've come to the right place! If I were you, I'd be spending my time in the Traditional subforum and Collector subforum. The members here are among the most knowledgeable and most generous people I've ever come across. If you can't find the information you are looking for here, there's a good chance it just doesn't exist on the web.

What particular knives are interesting you?
 
I’m becoming smitten with the older Case and Utica folders and the info seems easy to come by.
 
One more vote for the Traditional subforum, aka The Porch. Spend some time in there and you will come away knowing more than you ever thought there was to know. You may develop some new enthusiasms as well. The atmosphere is infectious, in a good way.
