hummm has any one other then me noticed a number of new bidders and names on the nicer buck kollectables ?
it seems a lot of bidders i have not noticed before now bidding on bucks and with low number of transactions under 50....
or is it jest me not paying attention....

Nope...yer payin' attention Dave...Seems all it takes is one buyer/seller to tell a buddy that he bought a Buck for peanuts and sold it for caviar...That "buddy" tells another and then you start seein' the "newbies" buyin' up whatever decent Bucks they can to make their "fortune" reselling to true collectors...:jerkit:

Thats good for us! We cant keep buying and selling between our selves. :D

Tho we seem to be doing a pretty good job of it!

Prices have gone up 50% and more on MIBs, it is making me strain to try an pay for a rare model (that I don't have) that has common brothers I bought 6 or 7 years ago for under $20. I may have to start walking the highways for can or sell blood. I will have to stop showing my collection to visitors if it is going to get valuable.

Perhaps a recent example of upward price pressure? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6632838334&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
Through emails to the seller I was able to determine that the knife is a late fourth version. i.e. stainless rocker pin, separate brass spacer, 2 line inverted stamp. What do you think it's worth?
All I can say is hang in there guys I believe what we are experiencing is a "BUBBLE" in the knife market. And like the others this one will soon pass. Have you seen what happened to the housing market.......take your pick they're everywhere and people are dealing again. Like someone said in an earlier thread....I hope you're buying these knives because you like them  and not to build up your retirement fund. ;)

...It is getting totally out of reach for me as well Mike...I've finally reached a point where the only knives I'll be looking at in eBay are those that are basically garbage, that I can pick up for a "few" bucks...that I can rework myself to either make them into something I like or try to bring 'em back to life...somehow...LOL...As for looking at knives I'd like to "collect"...it ain't gonna happen anymore...Unless I find a forumite selling something I want...I won't have it through eBay...not until this "bubble" bursts...:(

Thanks to you and others in this forum for bringing those old knifes back to life DarrylS. Thanks to your efforts hopefully they'll be around for another 50 years and maybe even get back into circulation someday. :D

True Dave, one of my Dads friends that managed to get setup in a successful business and made a bunch of bucks really fast, soon had a closet full of rifles.
nearly as many as you could stand up in a small hall coat closet.

Word apparently got out pretty fast and he got ripped off for all of them, and all the ammo he had up on the shelf for each one.

There is value and there is value. As a 300 series specialist most of the 97 'standard' pre-china models are not high cost( 10 % are). But it has taken me 10 years of good effort to get 62 of the 97. I have some out in cabinet in back room, where no windows are open, shades stay drawn. My other good stuff is kept in small gun cabinet. All this in a small low crime town.
The value is mostly the time and effort of building that collection, also most of the reward is not in the possession but the hunt.
You know your a hardcore collector when your willing to drive a couple of hundred miles to a gun/knife show and you get excited just standing in the aisle seeing a knife you don't have but are trying look cool to keep the price low. I admit that if I don't check ebay several times a week I don't feel right. Once in a greater while now, I get lucky.

I think the cost increase we all are seeing is a combination of high gas prices keeping people at home, increased use of computers in the home and the fact that the forums, collector clubs and us are promoting knife collecting.

sad but true that many of us are afarde to show off other then in a show were there is some security... yes the hunt ! and haveing to pratice and not have the edge of your voice crack and display the image of ready to walk away any moment yes adreallen nothing like it on a hunt and high and in auction feaver which the seller wants you to get HIGH on buying it and a sriller running you up... and caution setting in and the adrellen pay back if you dont get it ... hunting bucks is tough weather it is knives or deer ...
its how long it will stand still and how high will viper bruce or wh4f go... ;)

I have all my knives located in a small file cabinet under my desk. However I'm quickly running out of room and will either have to get a second file cabinet or look for a new place to stash them. :o
