What are the locks on the two upper models?

Jim

It is a safety similar to the one on the Gerber Covert. How does the quality of these knives seem?

Dennis is right. They are like a safety. They prevent the locking liner from being moved. They work just fine.

The quality of these knives is similar to the other CRKT knives. The Kasper is heavier in weight than most other CRKT knives (more like REKAT in weight)but then it's a big knife in the large size. I consider them a very good value as I do all CRKT products.

These knives do use inexpensive steel and that's my one reservation about them but they are super in every other respect. I'd have preferred moving up to AUS8 or another comparable steel even if it meant a few bucks more in selling price. I guess they see their target market a little differently than I see mine. Just an opinion. Take care.

I agree, I would rather pay a few more bucks and at least have aus-8. I'll probably get one anyway.

I'll have to agree with Fred, that Kasper is one heavy folder. We just got in 10 of each model of the Sampson's KISS, Point Guard, KFF, and Lightfoot Urban Shark and of the four the Kasper had the most heft by far, but then again, it is the largest knife

It's comfortable in the hand, but the weight makes me think twice.

I do know that Sampson's KISS is the perfect size for a money clip - I always thought that the standard KISS was too small.

And, just to round things out, here's a pic of the LUS to match Fred's scans above...

Today I bought the smaller CRKT Crawford Kasper Folder at Dennis Wright's shop. Very well done. I also got a chance to handle the Urban Shark, Sampson's KISS spearpoint, Large Crawford Kasper, and Small Point Guard. The large Point Guard hadn't come in yet, and that's the one I'm waiting on.
All these knives had excellent fit, finish, and actions. They feel more solid than they appear in photos, and the samples I handled had excellent lockup. The LAWKS feature is easy to engage/disengage, and when engaged, is pretty much out of the way of the thumb in saber grip.
I might also add that I found the thumb studs on the Crawford-Kasper to be very comfortable to use and easy to access.

I have played with them all now and my favorites are the point Guard and the Samson's KISS. I thought I would like the Crawford/Kasper better but I just can't get past the weight. But if you are looking for a beefy folder that feels KICK ASS in the hand then the Crawford/Kasper is for you.

What is the size of the Point Guard in terms of blade length, etc.? I got my first CRKT knife yesterday, a Ed Halligan Neck P.E.C.K., it's really cool. Maybe slightly bigger would be great, but still...

I think I'll be buying lots of CRKT stuff from now on. Don't got too much money, so CRKT's are perfect for me.

Comrade Chang:
The larger Point Guard's blade is 3.5", and the small one is 2.75".

On handling the small one, it's a lot thicker than it appears, and I suspect that thickness may translate better to the large model. But...the small one would make an excellent one-handed, pocket-knife-sized gentleman's folder.
Jim

Thanks Jim. My local surplus store hasn't gotten them in yet, and that is the only place I really buy at (only real decent selection in town and I can't order online yet). So far the only thing they have ordered is a bunch of KISS's, PECK's, and Neck PECK's. I didn't trust either the KISS or the PECK. Not something I really want in my pocket, the edge pop out a bit when closed and it hurts my thumb to open. Neck PECK was fine though ('cuz it don't fold

The CRKT Point Guard has aluminum handles, right? If so I'll have to pick one up

You could put nacho cheese sauce on it...

Doh! I was hoping that the Point Guard handles were 6061-T6 aluminum. Oh well.

I'm with the plunger on this one..guess that's why the knife's so reasonably priced, huh?

I'm a window squeegee, not a plunger.
