The black bladed one is from 2004 serial #1844 and the satin one is from 2012 serial #2534. At first I thought the newer blade was thicker stock, but after measuring they both came in at 0.13 inches. I'm pretty sure the liner is a bit more beefy on the new ones, and it's a little longer too, mostly because of the broadened ring. The lockup is quite a bit later on the older one, of course and the other difference is the new standoffs for the 2012 model and the lanyard hole. Still, very similar feel.

Can't beat the combat karambit. I almost never leave home without one.

I think the reason I had the impression that the blade stock was thicker is the sound of the lock bar engaging with the thicker liner stock. It just sounds and feels more "hefty." I was really surprised they were the same thickness.

I wish I could find these instock somewhere lol

BHQ had both the black and stonewashed in stock for awhile, but it didn't last long. I think you can order them directly from Emerson and I nearly did that, but happened to run across these used. The 2012 is almost unused. Here are a few more pics of my modest karambit collection. The Fox is model FX599, which is the "resized" version. It is licensed with the Emerson Wave, but they take awhile to acquire as well.

Was also wondering if the trainers have the secondary detente? Anyone know? I have a knockoff that I've beefed up with some new components until the blue Emersons are back in stock, but it's just not the same thing.

BTW, my inexperienced preference is for the ring on the Emersons. The Fox has a larger inside diameter so might accommodate bigger hands but it's the same sized ring as the regular version. I don't know how big the ring is on the Emerson Supers, but suspect it's larger. The Emerson ring, although a bit tight, provides more control during spins and other maneuvers. I've found that doing Ernie's spinning drills with the Fox gave me a few extra tats I wasn't looking for.

Nice! I have a satin and a black as well and always have one of them on me. I've never owned a Fox but hear good things about their quality. I noticed EBay has a couple combat karambits for sale right now but they're getting hard to find
