...or maybe they are not broken? Anyway, I bought a jaguar the other day and after flipping it around for a few days, the pin that locks the knife open and closed became so loose that it fails to lock the knife open anymore. In other words, the pin just falls out of place when I hold the knife upright. However, the pin still is able to lock the knife closed.
Two days later, I bought a Restfrei, and the same thing happened. What am I doing wrong? Are my knives broken? Can I fix them? Is fliping them around almost like abusing them?

I think you might be talking about the 'latch'. If you are, I think what you're talking about is normal. It only takes time for this to happen.

Don't worry, the pins on almost all jaguars and rostfrei eventually break or bend in some way. Just go to www.balisongxtreme.com and look at the pin fix and you'll be on the road again!

Wait, now that I read your post again, I understand better what your explaining. This will ALWAYS happen to Jags and rostfrei's alike. Its caused because the pivot pins have been bent and are causing the alignment to be off. Another reason why this can happen is because the cups in the handle have been compressed so the tang pin is no longer being tightly pinned to the handles.

Don't worry, it always happens.

Yes, upon closer inspection, it is because the cups are compressed. What can I do about this? I suppose I should buy another knife? Are they junk now?

Thanks for the help guys. Does anyone know of a good mid-priced knife that will not do this? I don't really need to buy an expensive BM.

No production balisong on the market, except for the BM 42, has cups that won't indent too much and cause the handles to contact.

Lemme say it easier, only the 42 has cups that won't indent.

Jeez, sounds like quite a design flaw to me. So does that mean you guys only flip the BM 42's when you want your knives to be functional the next day?

It's not like you have to have it lock up tight when you use it, since your hands are going to go around the handles when you use the bali then there is no need to have the latch just my opinion. The latch does keep the bali closed in your pocket but a sheath does the same also, I think that the major uses for the latch are the Latch Drop, and working the bali open or closed (like in one of Clay's freestyle videos). Again, this is just my opinion, hopefully the others will let us know what they think.
