New Commander Clone

Just purchased a knife off of ebay that is an interesting pseudo copy of Emerson's Super Commander.

The knife really isn't a clone of any knife Emerson makes. As I own both Commander and Super Commander models I compared this knife to them. The obvious patent violation is the wave/hook use. I'm guessing that if I open up the knife the other patented Emerson feature, a second internal ball bearing, won't be present. Another glaring omission is that they have not embossed an Emerson logo on the blade, instead it says "Stainless China". The blade has the dimensions of a Super Commander but with the early 1990s grind similar to the smaller Commander and it is thick 0.137 inch compared to the 0.125 inches of a Super. The knife edge is not a single edge grind it's the more common V grind.

The scales bares no resemblance at all to any Commander. The manufacturer went a little screw crazy with 5 on one side and 7 on the other not including the pivot screw or the 3 for the pocket clip. The scales are made from thermoplastic and are not a perfect match for the steel it's covering. The handle itself isn't patterned after the Commander and is unique.

As usual the thumbscrew is white toned instead of the Emerson black thumbscrew.

I'll take some pictures and add pointers later.

Your not really painting a favorable picture of this knife !!!

The words "stainles china" are about all i need to hear to fom an opinion :thumbdn:

but lets see some pics any way :)

OK, took 3 pictures of these knives next to their benchmarks
1. Real Emerson 2000 Commander
2. Fake Emerson 2000 Commander clone.
3. Real Emerson Super Commander
4. Fake No Brand Commander clone.

As you can see this new clone copies the wave feature and the appearance of the classic Commander grind. It resembles a Super in size but has a handle which is different and in my opinion a better shape. If they had used better materials for the handle it would be much more attractive.

looks like a bastard-child from an emerson commander and a crkt kaspar ..

that summs up #4 pretty much spot on :D

#2 is pretty close in the pics but if you got to handle them im sure the fake would be even more obvious.

you have some real nasty knives there :( but some good ones too:)

(2) has three obvious differences.
The screws are wrong. Emerson uses phillips.
The logo is wrong the sword goes below the date
The grind is wrong. The Emerson has a better grind.

The newer Commander has a completely different grind, like the Super Commander pictured.

(2) has two not so obvious differences
The internal scales are steel not Titanium.
The Emerson patented bearing feature is missing.

(2) has become my standard shipping tool knife. I use it to cut paper sheets, labels and cardboard, it's very good at cutting paper. It's good at flattening staples in coin carriers instead of dragging out a set of pliers.

I did use a CQC-7 Super but the steel is to thick and tears cardboard. It is better at heavy duty purpose use like digging, prying, cutting branches, punching big holes and sawing. It's also good at opening seams, cutting thread and making belt holes. In my opinion the CQC-7 Super is a more usefull knife in a pinch. I have seen CQC-7 clones but no CQC-7 Super clones.
