New Commander owner

What little tidbits of experience can previous owners fill me in on? You know, any quirks that can send you for the first aid kit or some cool facts that would take me awhile to pick up on. Might as well use all of the knowledge available on the forums. What is Emerson Knives' customer service like?

One tip is to make absolutely sure that after removing the knife from your pocket to put it away, that the blade is FULLY closed.

I learned this the hard way. I slowly removed the knife from my pocket and set it down, but did not look at it to make sure it was closed. I then went to pick it up and felt a sharp prick on my finger. A couple of seconds later, the blood started to flow. Just the very tip caught me ,but it was more than enough to leave a large gash.

If you do not want to deploy the knife while removing it , simply slide it towards your fly about an inch (just enough so that the wave won't catch), and then remove it.

That recurve edge is designed to cut, and it does a great job of it, as my thumb will tell you. Not a problem with the knife, I just got careless.

I work midnights shift and during the days/evenings while my wife is at work, I watch my wonderful and maniacal 3 1/2 year old Son. So, I nap often...

If you nap, in a chair, couch, whatever, be very careful. If you roll over or get up and that knife catches on an afghan or something, you may impale your ass cheek on this puppy. I almost did this once, the thought of it made me shudder...HA! Best to take the knife out of your pocket entirely. As a side note, I have bent the pocket clips on Benchmades and Spydercos, napping then you wake up and drag the afghan across the floor with you. :0

Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully I'll be picking it up at the Post Office this morning. Man, is my wife going to get tired of seeing, hearing, and playing with this one today. And she's into knives!

I got IT. This is one serious knife. The ads in the mags don't do it justice. And the wave, I'm already getting comfortable/quick with it. Mr. Emerson you out did yourself with this design. Very impressive.
