G'day guys, I'm finally joining most of you in the "Commander Club" I have BM Emersons and a Raven and have been putting off getting a Commander due to the price but a few extra shifts a week have fixed that. I'm getting a satin finished blade/combo edge and should have it in a few days. Can't wait. I'll let you know my initial impressions when I get it.

Cheers

peter

Yes there is.

  • * The blade grind is slightly different. The new style keeps the spine thickness further out toward the tip
    * The scales and liners are thinner, making for a thinner overall knife
    * The newer liners are serrated behind the thumb ramp. (same picture)
    * There is an internal change as well. If I recall correctly, it's the addition of a second detent on the right side.

I appologize about the quality of the pictures, but you should be able to get the idea. The newer Commander is on the top in each picture.

Hope this helps

John

Hope you like your Commander. Un-serrated blades are available from Emerson but you have to pay list price. They are also available in Green T. That is my favorite folder at this time. Am waiting for my SOCFK which may supplant the Commander. Unfortunately they are only available with combo edge at this time.

I'm a new Commander owner. I love the action on this thing. I'm also gaga about the pocket hook. Way cool!! Can you old time Commander owners answer a few things
1-Is it normal for the balde to pull to one side while retracted(in). It's sometimes rubbing the liner on the belt clip side when thumbing the blade open or closed.
2-Are other owners finding a recurring need to retighten the pivot screw. It seems to loosen with frequency.
I'd be grateful for input, info and other perspectives.

Does the second detent on the right side prevent the liner spring from moving too far to the right? I've noticed that the washers on the emersons appear to be thicker than those on BM, thereby allowing the liner spring to wedge between the blade and the opposite liner. John Hollister's picture of the old style commander spring appears thicker and less likely to wedge between the blade and the liner. Would this be the reason for the second detent?
