I finished up a new one within the Competition specifications the other day and have been doing some chopping and rope cuttin with it. It does pretty good.

The blade is just under 10 inches and the OAL is just shy of 15. The blade width is about 1 7/8 and thickness tapers from about 3/8 at the ricasso to 1/4 inch at the start of the clip. The stel is 5160H.
The guard is Bronze with Stainless pins. I was planning on using this one for myself for camp chores, but dont know for sure about that yet.
I saw a competition knife by Jason Knight a couple of years ago that gave me the idea for the lanyard attachment. The tang passes through the handle into a recess that is cut into the handle butt. The lanyard just goes through a hole drilled in the end of the tang.
The wood is Cocobola wood.

Very nice, it looks like it will swing with a good bit if heft, but without sliding out of the hand, having the curve on the very end of the handle. With the tip being directly in-line with the center of the handle it looks like it will be precisely balanced. Just one question, I have never owned a 10" blade before, is that length actually beneficial to the user or is the length based upon intended usage?

Steve,
The 10 inch blade is the limit of what most competitions allow, to keep things fair. But, it does help to have all the length you can get for the purpose of this type of knife. Within those length/width boundaries, its up to the maker to get the most out of the knife, drawing from his experience and knowledge of knife design. Yes, the balance is important. Since these knives will be used for chopping wood, a lot of guys will design the blade with some weight toward the tip. This means that a 10 inch blade will balance a little differently than a knife with a shorter blade. Thanks, Lin:)

Looking good. Wow! 3/8" down to 1/4" at the start of the clip. I bet that chopper has some heft! and I'm sure it will chop wood "pretty good" too :)

Lin,
You have been busy! Nice competition knife. Is this the knife you'll be using at Atlanta or the Spring Hammer-In?
Bob

Bob,
I will have this knife in Atlanta just in case they let me try to do some cuttin down there.:D I am always needing to make another, so I plan to have one of my regular Comp Cutters at the Hammer In.

Krug82,
I am sure of the knife more than myself. Chopping wood is not my strong suit, but if given enough time, I'll get it done. Lets just say, I'll be practicing a lot.

A good looking, aggressive cutter. Yeah, I'm talking about you, Lin. The knife is great too. :D

after handling your cutter last year, I know it feels good, one of the best contoured handles ive ever held.
