Still fighting the new system. Got to get it down before I go nuts. Sorry I'm so scare but if you have anything important email me. At least that seems to be working most of the time. Other stuff I'm not sure about. Did get my recovery discs burned so when I crash this thing I'll be able to recover rather than throw it in the trash. At least I think I'll be able to recover.

Later. Back to the misery. The HP photo stuff doesn't work the way I want and I can't use my old Corel from old computer -- good for win 95 only so they say.

HP stuff: you may have to get updated "drivers" for the HP hardware...little programs that help to interface the computer environment to the the hardware.

Fortunately, at least the last I had to do this, HP is pretty good about providing free for download on their website, and telling you what you need. Downside, the site is huge and it will take forever to get where you want. Support for the the exact device that you have is where to start.

Corel: Sorry, you're SOL on this one. One of the hidden costs of major upgrades. You'll have to obtain a new version or replace it with a similar software package that works on your new system.

Great program for handling photos is:

ThumbsPlus
www.cerious.com/thumbsplus.shtml
www.cerious.com
Online web demo of program from the main page--click flashing button.
Download, Free trial for 30 days.
Many Many Many features.
Scan, crop, sharpen, despeckle, filter, process, color correct,
batch, slideshow, tons & tons more.
I've used it for many years.
Not a photo Editor exactly.
But it does 95% of what anyone usually needs to do with a photo.

Another program I've used for not quite so long;
for pixel / brush / pen / cloning editing I recommend Picture Window.
Conceptually designed by a photographer as a digital darkroom.
Very different from corel Photopaint or Photoshop or any of the other photo editors I've seen.

Download, Again free 30-day trial.

Another 30-day trial program is Paintshop Pro.
I've used it for years, it is relatively easy and handles the scanning, cropping, editing, etc very nicely. It has advanced features but I don't use them.
It's at http://www.jasc.com/
