Guys, brand new to the forum. Have a few knives such as a SOG Seal Pup Elite, Cold Steel SRK and a few various pocket knives from SOG and Cold Steel.

I was out at an event this past weekend and saw a knife I really liked but didn't get the chance to talk to the guy who had it.

I am looking for a knife that is sort of old school. I want it to be a blade length of about 3.5 to 4 inches. I'd like for it to have a round bone handle to it with maybe a little character.

The only thing I've found online that comes close to what I am looking at have been some called Damascus which I like some of the blades a lot but haven't seen one with a round bone handle.

It can be a production or custom knife and I'd like to stay around $100 or so, downward.

Hoping maybe some of you knife gurus could point me in the direction of some to look for.

Appreciate any help!

What exactly do you mean by rounded handle? When I hear round bone handle with stag or bone, the GEC #53 or #54 comes to mind, but that might not be what you are referring to when you say round bone handle.

Check out Great Eastern Cutlery. GEC puts out knives under the brand names Tidioute, Northfield, and Great Eastern Cutleries. I'm sure you can find what you are looking for within their huge selection of old school patterns. Their prices range from around $60 to a bit over $100 if you opt for Stag covers.

I don't think you will ever find a custom for $100 dollars or less.

There is no perfect knife. If there was, none of us would be here :D

Are you wanting a fixed blade, like a hunting knife, or a folding pocketknife?

Not sure what you mean by "round bone handle." If you post a picture of something close to what you saw, the guys here can probably recommend a hundred similar knives.

YEs I for sure am wanting a fixed blade. By round I am referring to the style of the handle and it being round in shape instead of flat on the hhanndle something like a deer antler handle or something like that.

Ok guys, I appreciate it. Your info has been helpful in at least me being able to better articulate what I am looking for.

I want the handle to look something like the handle on this one but I want it to be bone, antler or something like that: http://www.agrussell.com/randall-model-28-woodsman/p/RAhhhM28G42S/

What I am after is that shape of a handle.

As for blade I am thinking more on the lines of a blade that looks like the one on this one but in the 3.5 to 4" category. I prefer it to be in some non-shiney color instead of polished. So a blade something like this one or one that is on like the Rat 3: http://www.agrussell.com/bob-dozier-delta-skinner/p/DKRThhhDP41BC/

Again, looking for fixed blade. Something that could look like it was from the 1800s maybe.

Thanks guys to all of you for being so helpful. Spent 4 hours last night looking at knives and couldn't find what I was looking for. Probably don't know where to be looking or how to refer to the type of knife I am looking for with search words.

I really do appreciate all the help. Also raising my limit up to $150 to maybe even $200 but really still would like to keep it to $100 or less.

Basically you're looking for a drop point hunter, my favorite style of fixed blade. The best place to pick up a custom of that style and in your price range is right here at BladeForums, in the For Sale by Maker section.

Also, there's a Queen Lite Hunter model with that "bare head" handle style. It has a clip point blade instead of a drop point, but the bone handles are stunning and the D2 steel is excellent.

you could start out testing the pattern for under $20. Google Rough Rider Hunter:

Ah thanks Bob, I have now put some words to what I am looking for. A drop point hunter. I'll do some looking around now that I understand what I am looking for.

Queen has some that might fit, GEC does.... I don't know about getting Damascus steel for that price range though.

Just search on eBay for "Solingen stag" or "german hunting knife" or a combination of those, and you'll find countless examples.

G'day and welcome to Bladeforums! :)
Can I suggest you also have a look at the offerings of the custom makers who are forum members (over at The Knife Exchange?). There is some really good stuff on offer and often at very reasonable prices - you can blow your budget if you want to, but you really don't have to.

Also, as a bit of a side note, if you're not already aware there is good and bad Damascus (like any knife steel). It's always worth talking to the maker to find out where the blades are made, the mix of steels used etc, to help you make an informed decision.

Have fun with it and let us know how it goes :)

Check out the Marble's line of fixed blade hunting knives; you can find originals ($$), excellent USA reproductions made in MI about 10-15 years ago - (in your price range), and the current made in China reproductions (pretty inexpensive). The modern ones (USA and China) are reproductions of the old ones. Good Luck, OH

Ps I see I missed the Damascus steel part of your requirement.

would this type of thing fit the bill -under a hundred easy -only problem -made in england
