New CPM S30V Military?

I have been a huge fan of the Spyderco Military since acquiring one a few years ago. Since then it has been my usual EDC folder and has not let me down once. My only complaint is that the CPM 440V steel can be a pain to sharpen if you let it get dull.

Spyderco has now released a CPM S30V version of the Military. I'm tempted to buy one in hopes that the new steel will offer similiar or better performance without the sharpening hassles. The Military is a proven design so, a better steel can't hurt.

How is Spyderco's CPM S30V holding up? How difficult is it to sharpen? Is it worth the expense of buying a new Military?
 
S30V seems at this time to be a very good steel. I've been pesonally pleased with the steel and I'm the guy that chooses.

The 2003 Honda is probably better than the 1999 Honda. Whether or not it is "worth" the expense to get the "newer" model is only a question the potential owner can answer.

I used to have difficulty in sharpening up my Millies, EZ, but I now use a DMT Whetstone (fine) that easily maintains that sharp edge. ;) (At least until I get around to getting the diamond triangles.)

BTW, the Military is also my favorite Spydie....never leaves my side. :cool: :D
 
Thanks Sal. I have not heard much about S30V so, it's good to hear that it performs well.

KBR - I use a DMT now too. I use the coarse one then go to the white rods on the Sharpmaker. I'll have to pick up a fine/extra-fine DMT some day.

I have a Strider in S30V and the steel is awesome...sharpens fairly easy, maintains it edge well in my experience, and very tough. Of all my current blades I keep gravitating towards it because of the steel. Though I love my Millie in 440V, in S30V it will be a winner.
 
Hey Guys,

Who has the S30V's in stock? I'm having some trouble finding them.
 
I just got a new military off of glasshart and it was S30V so try her out if you can get ahold of her.
