I was just looking around a local gun store and saw he had an Emerson CQC-11 for sale. I asked him about it and he said its been sitting there a while and he gave me a great deal on it. Anyway I noticed its serial number is 0040. Before I put this knife to hard use, I wanted to check and see if it might be of more value to a collector. Is this knife worth more than sticker price or should I just put it to work?

put it to work.

i have never seen an emerson sell for a premium because of a low serial number.

Sounds good to me. Its dated 2004 so I am assuming the CQC-11 must have been released that year. Not very old for a knife, but a long time to be sitting in the store. I was happy to take it off his hands for $140 :)

The serial numbers reset at the start of every batch IIRC so it really means nothing special.
I'm personally more interested in "cool" number like 0123 etc. than low numbers. :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure the serial number resets every year. So when you match the number with th year each knife is unique and trackable.

the low numbers donmt add anything unless ya find one the number means something too, maybe "007" would bring a premium to james bond lol, or "024" to jack bauer, generally though they dont add any value.

Genuine low numbers can be had. I had a CQC-12 from 2004 that was numbered 023. The 12 was introduced that year so it was the 23rd one made.
