After many hours of lost sleep, the gnashing of teeth, pulling my hair out....
I finally settled on a 12 to purchase. Three Emerson knives were in the lead, the hd-7, a-100, and the 12. The twelve won because it seemed the best all around, do anything knife that came w/ a framelock. The hd-7 was close in the decisions, but the tanto blade and one-sided grind just didn't do it for me.
First, the positives:
1. Framelock- stout, reliable, much room for wear, solid.
2. Handle- very comfortable in any grip. Got an early #82 (cool, I was in that outfit- Airborne!) w/ a bead blasted finish on the ti. Very grippy.
3. Blade shape- utility oriented, do anything blade shape. Very sharp, but not spydy sharp.
4. Fit and finish- good, but it better have been for that amount of money.
Negatives:
1. Really small complaint, but I don't much care for the one-side bevel. I'm already over it. The edge is pretty thick because of the grind. No, I'm not getting a Krein re-grind. I'll thin it out myself.
2. Cheap looking backspacer; also, I can live w/ it. Might have someone make me a custom ti one.
I sold a used severtech (can't carry autos in LA) and a spydy pikal to get this knife. I'm not regretting the decision, at all. I think this thing will give me years of use if I take care of it.
Thanks for listening,
