Hey,
This is my brand new CQC7, three days of opening it and closing it.
I only waved it about 3 times in 3 days, It was very gritty in the beginning.
The liner is moving over pretty fast in my opinion, Is this normal?

when it hit dead middle of tang i took it apart and lubed it with a little lithum grease, that took away the grittiness of the opening
but the liner is about 50% or 60 % in 3 days.

Just asking you for your opinion.
I LOVE THIS KNIFE so dont take it as a slight
I am just hoping to hear this is normal.

Thanks

That's what happened with my new one too. If you open it with your thumb it locks early but if you flick it open or use the wave feature it locks later causing the hard stick. I have seen it in all my emersons.

I don't understand the mechanics of this.

My older Emersons (2011) lock up in the same spot with either a soft open or hard flick. The newer ones I had (2013-2015) had different locking points depending on how hard the open was.

The only times I would worry about lockup:

lock rock when you are putting pressure on the lock
if the lock touches to the other liner

Other than this, your lockup looks normal to me

I've been told that the liner lock does settle in. I would think it should stop moving over. I guess the question is when. That is still good lock up in my opinion if it stays there. You could try to rotate the stop pin, that might give you earlier lock up.

My CQC 7 I bought brand new a few years ago had a late lockup out the box also, but it hasn't moved since. As long as you don't have lock rock like mentioned above you should be fine. Also, with Emersons lifetime warranty you're in good hands if anything should happen. Enjoy the knife!

Looks good to me, keep using it.

Mine is at about 90 percent after opening and closing it a few thousand times and using it daily the last year and a half. It has some lock rock but I only use it for cutting.
I'll give it another year to send it in to get the liners looked at.

I would be OK with that lockup. Most of my Emersons arrived w/ very early lockup, eventually move in slightly then suddenly stop and they stay there.

I tell people to let it break in under factory assembly--not to take it apart until after it's broken in if tweaks are still necessary at that point. I'd try not to disassemble it again until you're sure it's broken in. And don't fight the "grit" during break in, that grit is likely the factory copper lube impregnating into the washers to stay there for life....and it will eventually smooth out. I don't lube mine, it's not required.

Yeah, when you wrist-flick it or wave it hard, most of them will lock a little later...and maybe a touch of lock stick now and then. It's normal.

I think i might send it in, today its almost at 80% just opening and closing it with my thumb, interesting that when i wave it its about 65% lockup.

Again in my opinion if you're not experiencing any lock rock you're good to go man use the snot out of it

Ya it's pretty late, but why send it in yet? It's still fine, assuming it LOCKS, so just use it til it doesn't lock and THEN send it in.

have you tired some of the screw tightening in an order trickery when reassembling to get the liner closer to open? sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.

Is the lock still sticky or has it settled into an easier lock release? If the former, the geometry of your blade tang to lock face might be slightly off and the wear may continue. If the latter, your lock may have settled to where wear will be drastically slower or even negligible.

still getting lock stick at 85% to 90%. Spoke with EMERSON Knives today and they couldnt be nicer folks,
Sending it in today.
