I have just purchased my second CR knife. The first one was a lg sebenza, perfect using knife but I couldn't open it as fast as my spydercos and I couldn't open it with both hands (both problems if I am to put my defensive knife training into use). However I loved the design, well thought out and tough. I just purchased a shadow III for carry in states where I can't have a gun and for general utility use. Unfortunately I purchased the knife on ebay and it doesn't come with a box or birth certificate. I am planning on using this knife so collector value isn't primary but I would love to get these items if I could.

Question 1: I paid 110 incl s&H was this a good price for an unused Shadow III even though it doesn't have the box or papers?

Question 2: can I get the missing items or will I be forever without the box and papers.

Thanks

Wow! You got a good price on it

You could probably get the box from CR, but your paper etc on when it was made is gone forever, no big deal...I wouldnt even bother.

I got mine last year and paid 140, and even that was a good deal. Found mine at an NKCA show.

Box??? That wouldn't be a terrible price if the sheath was missing.

Seriously, you done good. A box is a box of course of course and CRK would probably send you one if you asked real nice. The birth certificate is, as said before, gone forever.

Unless a mint (untouched, uncirculated, almost un-looked at) knife were to be put in a private collection, I still don't get all of the hullabaloo about the birth certificate. I mean if the knife is an authentic CR and not a knock-off, the only thing that pirce of paper does is give you the date of manufacture. Use the knife and be happy.

Think of all the happy people in the world who do not have a birth certificate.

Jason, the speed of your Sebenza's opening is entirely adjustable. If you haven't yet, take your sebbie apart and give it a good washing. Then lightly apply the white grease that CRK provides. You should find that it moves much more smoothly.

In fact, if you hold the locking bar OUT, the knife should SWING out of the handle, if you are holding the blade upside down. It does this so fast on mine, that it surprises me.

This means that the blade tension is entirely a matter of the ceramic detent ball being pressed against the blade.

You can affect this either by lubricating the ball race, or by adjusting the tension of the lock. On my small Seb, the lock engages at 90%. This makes it much more stiff (and secure when shut) than my large, which engages at 60%. 60% is how it came from CRK, and it opens MUCH more quickly than my small.

By bending the locking bar *just a bit* outward, you can relieve some of the detent ball's pressure, and you will find that the blade comes out faster and faster.

Also, be sure to check your pocket clip (if it's on). On some knives, it's bend so that it applies a positive pressure to the locking bar, increasing the pressure of the detent ball. To check this, open the knife and sight along the side. Is the bottom of the clip flush with the flat part of the handle, or does it bend inward, toward the locking bar? If so, bend it outward until it adds no pressure to your locking bar. This will allow you to relieve even more pressure. Or just remove the clip altogether.

I've even been thinking about bending my lock INWARD, it opens so smooth and quick...

Thanks for the advice. I want easy one hand opening and closing. Both are important to me.
Safeing,(closing), the knife may be more important.
I have a stack of commendations, certs. of appreciation, etc. They are not worth the paper that they are printed on.
Some have gone missing.
I remember when I was a slick sleeve PVT. Those decorations were to die for. I darn near did and now I don`t care.
