I know very little and I noticed this new thing Deal Spotting Removed. It looks like a much longer version of the kabar tactool ment for survival. It has a lot of serrations and a rope cutter thing. The crazy thing is that the price is $30. I wonder if this is something absolute crap or or is it actually a functional blade in the low price class?

Some specs/features:
Blade Steel: Full Tang 440 Stainless Steel
Blade Length: 12"
Overall Length: 18"
Made in China
Titanium Bonded
Includes Camillus Nylon Sheath
Lifetime Warranty

Yuck. For almost as cheap (if not just as), you can get a Condor made of decent steel. Chinese mystery 440 steel is probably 440A... which is a great steel for spoons and cups, but not knife blades.

the Kabar 'survivacool'? You aren't talking about the beautiful Becker BK3 are you? You can't even compare the two designs... cheap Chinese low-blow copy made out of low-impact stainless steel versus one of the most well-thought out urban survival tools in the industry, made in the USA out of one of the best high carbon steels the market has to offer? Just get the real thing... if you 'do know very little' get informed before assigning titles to some of the most renowned tools on the market.

Looks very Tactool-esque. Wouldn't trust it with soggy paper though. Titanium bonded? What does that even mean?

I heard that the "Titanium bonded" blades are 10 times harder than "regular" knife blades. Bunch of crap if you ask me.

The applied coating is harder, but all that means is that the coating is tough to wear off. No other benefit.

Ill try to stay positive on this one...for the amount of steel you get its not bad for the price...Looks great for a beater

FortyTwo is right. They titanium-bond disposable razor blades too. It's a cheap way to surface harden temporary-use tools, and means jack if you're ever going to use it to the point of sharpening. It's a supercheap sales gimmick.

That knife could go into the most laughable thread. It doesn't seem optimised for anything. Why does it have a gut hook?

because it's 'awesome'.... there's no swell at all, all that length and a waste of a sweet spot. A sharpened prybar with no lateral strength in the steel... and six inches of edge wasted on horribly designed serrations.

I think Dexter Russel makes one of those--just without the guthook. They call theirs a roast slicer though. :D

A Tactical Breadknife!

It would be perfect next to my carbon fiber spatula (12% lighter than a regular plastic spatula)!

I couldn't resist...

It is not a bad blade at all i have used my friends i think yall would be surprised if yall picked one up instead of just speculating. it is what is, a beater blade meant for use abuse.

haha, good old Camillus. Guy at my work has his "grail" knife which is Camillus' branded "titanium nitride" knife. Which he tells me never gets dull (meanwhile he asks me to sharpen it all the time, oh but I probably can't sharpen his titanium knife) and the AUS8 marking on the blade means it's a quality knife from either Austria or Australia, he's not sure. But way better than my crappy chinese Spyderco (which happens to be made in Colorado) that I carry :p

Real chintzy CF scales, too.

Gotta hate all those crappy chinese spyderco's, especially the one's with GOLDEN, COLORADO, USA, EARTH written on em. Can't hold a candle to my Camillus' titanium bonded awesomeness.

Also, I'm pretty sure AUS8 stands for AUSOME times 8.
