I finally have the money to purchase one of the two mentioned knives, the CRKT Hissatsu folder, and the SOG Vulcan. Now overall the sog seems to be the champion but I would like to hear from anybody who can attest to either knife. Here are the stats as I remember:

CRKT Hissatsu folder:

blade length 3.85 to 4 inches (not too sure)
total length: 9 to 9.5 inches
weight: 5.6 ounces or 5.9 ounces
Blade steel: AUS 8
RC: 57-58

SOG Vulcan

Blade length: 3.5 inches
Blade steel: VG-10
weight: 5.0 ounces
RC: 59-61

They are both going to be about the same price for me since my buddies are going to give me a good deal for the vulcan if I take it. So again, I would like to hear anybody's opinion on these two knives. Please hurry since I am going to pick one out tomorrow around 2pm!

I own the Hissatsu folder, and it's a nice solid knife with a good kick but it doesn't have a great blade for ultility tasks... unless you routinely have to take out sentries in a moonlit courtyard. The SOG looks infinitely more practical. If I owned the SOG I would actually carry and use it more than the Hissatsu.

The Hissatsu does have the Auto-Lawks feature, which adds some safety and confidence, but closing it can be a pain. Also it's very "stabby" looking and might scare the folks at the office when you use it to cut an apple or whatever.

I will go with the SOG

1. The blade profile seems a lot more useful. The CRKT looks like a dedicated selfdefense knife.

2. The VG10 is a better steel than the AUS 8

3. The Arc-Lock is better than a linerlock, even with Auto LAWKS. You will LOVE the Arc-Lock, I'm sure

4. Personaly, I HATE the disk for opening knives

Good luck!

Just to add to my comment above..the main reason I didnt get one was the lack of the flipper. Everyone reckons it fires hard but is difficult to open one handed unless you remove the torsion bar. If the opportunity comes up down the track I will probably still get one.

Sounds good, making some good points about the sog, so far so good, whichever one I choose I will still probably end up getting the other farther down the line. Does anybody know how thick the Hissatsu folder's blade is? 'cause I know that the vulcan's blade is .16" thick, if not, then keep bringing on the reviews, cause they both still sound pretty cool.

Thanks again, J.

Feel free to leave more replies and reviews, I am going to bed, but I'll check back around 10:30 am central tomorrow, then I go on my road trip to get my knife! Keep them coming and I'll see what's going on tomorrow. I'll also make sure I repost as to which knife I purchase and how it performs. J.

I went into town and I got the SOG Vulcan! It is bad ass and even more than I hoped for! The blade is a thick .16" and 3.5" long. It is VG-10 steel and the ergonomics are awsome! It fits the hand great and is nice and sturdy. The knife comes with the arc lock which is tested out at over 1000 pounds. It also has a finger flip in addition to the thumb studs. Normally knives with the finger flip don't have useful thumb studs, but this knife's thumb studs are 100% opperational. The knife is completely ambidextrous and the clip can be adjusted for left or right hand use. I would definitely recommend getting this knife

The Vulcan is a real nice knife. You can't go wrong with either knife. And yes, the thumb disk really sucks for the Hissatsu, but you get used to it.
