I think that CRKT has stepped up their new 09 lineup of knives with better handle materials like Micarta and some natural materials , the steels aren't S30V or D2 or others but they seem to be workable steels at some good prices, can't wait until the Tuition comes out.http://www.crkt.com/

I do think some designs are kinda weird and not my style but overall CRKT has some very nice designs this year.

Make sure you know what kind of steel you're getting. The handle material quite often is better than the blade material by far. The M21-04Gs are beautiful knives with nice deep belly blades, but the steel is crap steel. They're advertised at the same RC hardness (58-59), but there's almost no carbon.

Their knives with AUS8 steel are good, but beware anything else. Also, there are a lot of counterfeits making the rounds. Make sure you're getting a CRKT. I've seen a whole spate of counterfeit Cold Steel knives.

My experience with CRKT has been they are fine until you use them.
I had one of their Lightfoot designs with a chisel grind and started to hack limbs off hiking trails with it. The edge was destroyed and diamond rods and ceramic didn't bring it back.

Some good lookin knives! that hissasu with the cord wrap is neat, I hope its well priced!

As a note, it's called the Hisshou (pronounced ee-shoo) and they actually used carbon steel for it! Pricey (at least for CRKT) but way cool. James Williams is the man.

That's my main beef with CRKT. Fun designs, solid builds, bad steel, bad heat treatment.

the 8Cr14 in the M21-04G has more carbon than AUS8 does

Unfortunately the Renner Scharrd didn't make it in the final line-up.
It was in the leaked pdf catalogue and for me it was the most appealing new CRKT. Especially the small one looks like an exquisite gentlemen knife. And 12C27 steel is nice for this use (all my laguioles use it), furthermore bone scales and a special locking system.
Well, in these dire times perhaps it's good to save some money... :-)

My Dad bought these CRKT's and I've wound up with them, I've never used them but they open fast lockup well and I like the designs.

CRKT does interesting work. Upgrading the steel helps them a lot. They've had a few models with good steel, but the perception will continue to focus on the cheapies, unfortunately.

Also, they have had a few nice models that were not sized for a big hand, so I passed on them, like Jill's Crawford Kaspars and the Crawford AOs.

I really like their unique designs, and always have. Right now I'm especially attracted to the Turtle, the Fulcrum, and the Glide Lock designs. But 420J2? AUS6? AUS4?!? C'mon...

At $30-$40 each, these aren't exactly 'cheap' knives either. A $15 SAK has better steel...

End of rant. Sorry.
