New CRKT M16-12Z seems rough.

It doesn't open all that smoothly, and the lock seems very rough when trying to disengage it. Kind of like it's rubbing on sandpaper.

It also takes quite a bit of force to push it open with the flipper or thumb stud. On my Gerber AR3.00, a gentle flick sends it flying open like it was on ice. I really do like the design of this knife, and the blade, but the opening of it, and the lock leave much to be desired.

I'm left handed, and for some reason when I flick it open with my right hand, it seems to work much better.

Is this normal for a new M-16? Or did I get a bum knife? I was going to get the aluminum handled one, but in my stupidity/tiredness I bought this one on eBay before realizing it was the zytel version. Are the aluminum or titanium ones smoother?

Also, sometimes the liner gets stuck, to the point where I have to put in my fingernail to push it back to unlock it.

I have owned quite a few CRKT folders (no M-16, tho) and they have ALL been very smooth. I suggest that you contact CRKT and/or send it back to them so they can take a look at it, and make it right.

I've handled a few M16's. My M16-13Z's lock stuck for the first week or so I had it. I once had to use a quarter to unlock it, but it soon broke in and works great.

There's a method to flipping the knife out with the flipper, you'll get the hang of it in a few days.

As to the pivot not being smooth, forgive me if I'm stating the obvious here, perhaps the solution is as simple as loosening it a bit with a flathead screwdriver? Lubricate it too.

Losening it helped marginally, but it still doesn't open as smoothly as my Gerber AR3.00 (My only other semi-decent knife). Maybe it's just a matter of breaking it in.
