Anyone who needs a cryogenic treatment to their blades, just send them to me. I'll lay them on my bench in my garage for a couple of days, and presto! That's how cold it feels in Central Kansas. I've had it with Winter. Bring on Spring.

Hi Tinker, I say Amen to that! Where in central Kansas are you? I am in Belle Plaine, just South of Wichita about 20 miles. Well actually I'm in Wichita at work right now.

-24 with windchill here last night!!

Warming up nicely today, we're up to -11

That is what I am trying to do is sheath work inside. By the time I get home from work, I can't build a fire and get it warm enough in the shop before bedtime to get anything done. I got 15 blades profiled and ready to be ground calling my name, but trying to do it with cold hands is a recipe for disaster.

Dido if anyone needs any heat treat just send it to me in the summer (AZ), and I will set It on the pavement.

For many people this winter has not been as much fun as normal.
Some of us have got a ton of snow and no place to put any more of it, yet more is on the way.

We here didnt get much of any snow this winter.
But for some reason it's just always too cold to do much outside. Woke up today and it was -22 out, and when you count the windchill it's down to below -30.

Not many knives going to be made at this rate.

That's it...lets break into the custom, one off ICE PICK business:) Good use for those trimmed scraps from profiling on the bandsaw.

I was trapped on the side of Mt. Panorama (I think we dubbed it that, I forget the actual peak name) in the Denali park one night in a raging snow storm. If the wind reading device we stuck outside the snow cave was to be believed the temperature was below -140 with wind chill. I think that would qualify as real cryo, the kerosene dry ice I use only hits -105ish lol.

LOL, you guys crack me up ;) I guess it's good to have a sense of humor when the weather turns. Can't do anything about it but laugh.

Someday I'll make it to AK., and Denali N.P. I've always wanted to see McKinley, or just a real mountain for that matter. All we have down here are big hills, they say at one time our "hills" were the equivalent of the Rockies. Many years of wear & tear has munched them down . I'll bet there are many "Mt Panorama's" (unnamed mts) where you're at. As for cold, I don't have to go any farther north than where I'm at, Superior keeps us plenty cold. We've been at least -15*F ambient every night for the last 8 or 10 days, many nights much colder than that. BigJim, that is the 3rd dry ice "recipe" I have heard mention of, the first 2 being acetone + dry ice & alcohol + dry ice. Interesting. :)

Well I'm going to Dallas for the weekend to see my grandkids and I'm getting out of this for a couple of days. I know you ole boys up North got it worse so I feel for you! I was in Alaska in July...wern't bad then...in fact I fell in love with the place...not going on a cruise again though, I want to see where the home boys play.

You guys who are experiencing the cold weather may get a laugh out of this. Here in Houston, we see people walking around wearing big coats and gloves because the temperature has fallen to between +40 and +45 degrees. My wife and I used to live in Ottawa and Toronto so we some idea of what you are facing.

Phil

This afternoon, I only had to turn on the fan in my truck and not the AC. And I kinda wished I wore long sleeves while I waited in line at the drive-thru with my window down at around 8 PM.

:D
