New custom balisong maker?

I have noticed people talking of building a better balisong, and although I'm not exactly sure where to start at, I think I'd like to give it a try. I've talked to a few people about this, and I have decided to base my first prototype on the Dragon Forge DF-201. My new ideas? Well, three basic things.

1. Stronger pins.

2. Thinner and lighter handles.

3. Benchmade 42 style blade shape.

I was just sitting here fooling around with MS Paint and drew a pic of the closed prototype balisong here. It's not much to look at and it's about 4 AM here, so please forgive the lousy quality and disregard the pointless text below it, but this is it. Anybody want to wish me luck or give me pointers on this? I have been surfing the web and have seen lots of pics, literally thousands, of various balisongs. I hope to be able to make a variety of different custom, made to order balisongs. This idea was based on my initial idea of a production balisong. Comments?

Well, good start! At the moment it looks almost exactly like the Jaguar but i understand its still in the works. Your going to want to add somthing "special" to it. If people wanted a jag with stronger pins they could get a jag and repin it themselves. A latch gate would be nice, though i dont know if that would be cost prohibitive. Good luck! I know id buy one.

Well, a latch gate seems to be pretty much a Benchmade trademark and although the concept seems very nice, one can learn to manipulate a balisong without the latch contacting the blade. But I will take the latch gate into consideration. The strong pins were an obvious, but I think the thinner handles would be somewhat of an improvement. I think the handles on the Jags are a tad too thick. I sorta liked the feel of my Rostfrei when I bought it. When the handles are aligned well on it, it's a very nice practice knife. The pins on it leave alot to be desired, as does much of the much, especially the incredibly lousy blade. But I like the feel of it. My prototype for a production model, one of many, is more or less a slightly scaled down and reinforced version of the Dragon Forge DF-201. I think they are pretty good knives, but leave some room for improvement. I doubt I will ever manage a production line, but that is one of the ideas I would like to base a knife on if I were to. I think I will try to release a series of limited editions, based on various custom balisongs I have seen. As I learn the tricks of the trade, I will come up with some completely original ones. But in the meantime I would like to make balisongs that are as functional as they are good looking. Anyone else have anything to add here? Thanks.
