Yesterday I was on the web looking @ the benchmade site and was surprised to see they now have a custom barrage available to order just like the custom grip program. Lots of new colors and different steels available.

I ordered a 580 with crimson red handles and a s30v blade.

Excited to get the new barrage in new colors with the s30v.

Just hope sooner or later they add M390.

I don't like the scales on the 581

$180 for s30v frn knife is pretty rough, but I like that they're expanding the options. Having the different laser options right through the customizing page is pretty cool.

I paid 165, steep compared to the 88.00 I paid previously for bnib from a dealer. But with the changes in pricing it is fair.

I also don't mind paying extra for BM because clips are free, customer service is best I have ever dealt with.

Had an old 831 with a handle problem they couldn't fix, they shipped it back with a free bnib griptilian.

Also their S30V heat treat holds an edge better than other makers I have owned IMO.

Just nice to have some new options.

Very cool, some may find the price to be steep, but I think its a great idea for benchmade to branch out of the griptillian only option. Give it time and hopefully more models will come. The 581 barrage is one of my favorite knives.

Yeah...and for the Grips as well. Upgrading from FRN makes a big difference.

I think this was mentioned in the in custom grip thread as well, but the cost proposition for a G10 scale option is a painful one. Take the 530 vs 531 for example...that's essentially a $40 upcharge for G10, meaning a G10 option for the custom barrage would likely put it at $200 or more.

I'm not sure it is G-10 or FRN.

I have tried my custom 583BK on the page, with S30V blade, it is $155. Actually, $10 less than regular 583 despite $20 for S30V steel.

I love my 581 with the M390 steel. What is it you don't like about the scales?

I just can't bring myself to buy scales that cost more than the actual knife. For 200 bucks I can find a much better knife than even an upgraded Grip (i.e. 581).

...and my take is for the price an upgrade path, G-10 scales as an option would be the ticket. Owning a pair of limited 580-1102 models, the difference in using G-10 is like night and day.

I can see that being the truth. If BM were to offer it, I understand paying a premium to make a knife more "yours" by customization but, I just hope they use the 581 as the cut off in what to charge since it already has the G-10 and M390 steel.

Not a big fan of the dual texture g-10 and aluminum. I like G-10, just don't like aluminum with it. Doesn't give it a good texture imo when wet or muddy hands. Agreed with others here a G-10 only option would be worth the upgrade.

Hopefully mine will be here soon.
