I saw some of Royce's work here on BF and really liked what I saw, so I contacted him a little while ago to see if he was taking orders and he was kind enough to fit me into his schedule. He asked me what materials I was looking to get and the usual questions when we got to talking about my hand size. I told him I wear XXL-XXXL gloves and finding knives that fit is sometimes a chore. He told me not to worry, he'd take care of that.
A short time later, I received a package from Canada in the mail. I opened it up and inside I found a mock-up of a knife handle rough carved with instructions from Royce to modify it as I saw fit and send it back to him. He told me he'd replicate the grip as close as he could. I didn't have to change much, but I did do a little sanding here and there and sent it back up north of the border.
Well... the knife arrived this past week and I have to tell ya... THIS blade just jumped to the front of the line for the best feeling handle I've ever held in my hands. He NAILED it!!! The handle is just long enough to allow me to grab it in any position I want without binding while still being just right to LOCK the hand in place. I'm thrilled with the knife and the experience interacting with Royce. He's a class act!
I told him I was going to pair it with a Ruger NMFT 45Colt I like to carry in the woods, but was disappointed because he has basically forced me to find someone who is willing to carve me some polished black G10 grips. Royce also sent TWO sheaths with this blade so I can carry it both vertically and horizontally as needed (I only took pictures of the vertical sheath, sorry).
Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with another maker I found here on the forum and express how happy I am with the knife. THANKS AGAIN ROYCE, I really appreciate the blade!!!
Here are a few quick pictures I snapped today...
