Just picked up this custom shop Rodent Solution off of the exchange. :cool: Upon receipt, I cleaned 'er up real nice, then polished the spine and rounded surface at the butt. :D I might polish the SS handle rivets too, not sure yet.

These particular custom shop variants are just SWEET!!! :thumbup: I am surprised you don't hear more people talking about about them. What's not to like? Satin finish, zero edge convex grind, slightly narrower grip toward the front of the handle, and the addition of the choil in the ricasso/guard area make this knife quite user friendly. It will be an excellent hunting knife! It balances almost exactly in between the first and second rivet in the handle, right where they made it narrower than the regular Rodent Solution, so it is extremely easy to manipulate for finer tasks when in a choked up grip.

This is what the RS should have been from the start imo, but coated with a satin offering as a custom shop piece. It does everything right for a knife this size. I hope to own one some day.

I agree!!! After holding this one, the regular version of the RS, while still good, just doesn't feel quite right. I really like how they continued the curve of the handle between the first and second rivet, instead of making it relatively straight like on the standard version.

I'm considering comissioning a custom shop Rodent Trail in a similar format to this... :D

Nice score SP! This variant looks to be a lot more pointy than the original RS.

Sorry to go off topic here, Patrick, why are you not back at the Swamp yet? :eek::grumpy:

Thanks! It does look that way because it has a nice, smooth, gradual curve to the edge versus the original, which was relatively straight and then curved up only toward the tip. This, in effect, removes some metal around the belly versus the original making it look more pointy. The whole top curve is identical on the two knives (handle and spine).

Didn't think about it today, so I'll have to get some comparison shots between the two tomorrow. It will show much better in a picture what I'm talking about.

The hollow ground satin variant has slightly more belly than the stock version. I guess they didn't just polish the blade and change grind or add choil.
 
As has been mentioned, I did not order this direct, I just recently picked it up second hand off of the exchange. They don't show up real often anymore. I have not yet figured out where they originally came from, but I suspect it was a show toward the end of 2011 or early 2012 as that is about when they started showing up. I'm pretty sure these were not direct custom shop orders. I have not yet found them offered in any past Ganzaa (not to say that they weren't). Knife hunter had a slew of them for sale here.

I contacted the custom shop, and they told me they would do a similar version with the Rodent Trail blade design for me. I'm still mulling it over, but I think I'm going to go for it! :cool:

I can not get the new forum to send me a password via email. I even made a new acc PatrickKnight1 and I click one thing and it auto logs me out. Trust me brother I have tried but I think this is about as close to the Swamp as I may get.
 
Man that is a sweet RS! Good idea regarding the Rodent Trail, I got a white bone handled one in the Cupid Ganza and I really like it.
 
Here are the comparison shots I promised. Sorry they suck, once I got around to taking them today it had started raining, so I had to do them inside. You can see where the handle is narrower, and also how the blade grind is more curved the whole way. Also, the very heel of the blade is about 0.050" taller on the c/s variant.

I've got the CS version without the choil & natural micarta. One of my favorite kin! Make's me happy every time I use it!
