New custom slabs for my ESEE-4 and a friend

I just received my custom made scales from Randy Chinn(marathonman) and I have to say, he is a magician with wood! He made two sets for me, the museum grade Bird'e Eye Maple for the ESEE-4 and some very nice Cocobolo for my new STS-5 from Bark River. It's OK they didn't mind my ESEE-4 in the Bark River forum, so it shouldn't be a problem having the great STS-5 visit here.

He is a real craftsman with wood. Well done Randy Chinn!!!!

You are right, that is a very beautiful combination of colours. That is not the regular colour of Bird's Eye Maple, but these scales were stabilized by being cooked at 350 degrees for 3 days...this changes the colour of the wood as well as the cell structure. Of the 15 knives in my collection, these two are my very favourites.

Keep you eyes peeled to this thread and I will get Randy to come here and give his information if he wants to give it. You will be surprised when you find out more about him. Wood-working is his passion, plus he gets great satisfaction from the joy he brings from his work. :)

Thank you...makes an already excellent knife even better. For me the big three and the best manufacturers are: ESEE, Bark River and Fallkniven with an emphasis on ESEE for its great price point value.

Funny you should ask! Randy, the guy who makes them, will be scanning this forum for those who indicate they are interested, then he will approach those people and let them know what they need to know and find out what he needs to know. He will even hunt down the wood for you if you need that.
