New Cutting Board

I found some fresh Branzini yesterday, perfect for making fillets for a recipe with the new filletin' knife. But I needed to make a new cutting board because filletin' fish on a round cutting board is a little challenging and I gave all my old rectangle cutting boards to my oldest daughter Sarah over the last couple of years. So I laid the piece I was cutting the new board out of on the desk, laid the fish on it for reference, and drew out a new board. Then I checked my youngest's temp before going down and quickly cutting it out and sanding it. I know it's a bit rough looking, lol it's a ten minute cutting board. Because I'm staying close to the kiddo with her roller coaster fevering and in and out feeling fine / feeling weak stuff...102.4 at 7 am, 98.9 the next wake up, 101.2 shortly after, 101.9 currently...)

You should have seen the look on her face when I held up the board with the drawing on it and said with a straight face "I'll be back up in a few minutes, I'm over this whole crazy roller coaster sickness of your's, I'm going down to make a new paddle. I'm gonna see if we can tune your attitude up and get this fixed and over with.". Watching the looks change on her face as she processed what I had just said was more than I could take with a straight face and I busted out laughing. She just smiled incredulously at me, then laughed and shook her head...saying something like "silly daddy" as I was walking down stairs. I'm glad this Mercury Retrograde stuff doesn't have everyone's sense of humor on vacation.

Oh, and if you're not a Tolkien fan, then you're probably not saying the word filletin' the same way I am when i write it out :D

clean it and seal it with 4 or 5 applications of Danish oil. Then after that just use butcher block conditioner. It will hold up

Thanks Bob, I'll do that and see how long it lasts without warping etc. I want to make a glued-up panel with the grain reversed in each piece to cut a few out of later when it's warmer.

Love seeing the knife cut some fish. That branzino looks delicious.

Yeah, I'd rather fillet a decent sized fish than scale it and eat around the bones any day. Dad taught me that when i was like 9. Lol, he used to try to give people filleting lessons at the dock, but they would usually rather just pay him to fillet their's lolol. It is delicious, I'll have to pick up some more if they have any left
