Have any of you heard of a new dagger book to be published?

I received an email from a fellow in the Czech Republic. He stated that he's in the works to publish a dagger book, and asked about my participation.

The email had several pics of my daggers attached, so it was very specific and not some random email.

However, having not heard of this, I must admit I'm feeling hesitant.

So has anybody here heard of it?

THANKS! :D

I got one also Nick but with none of my pics attached.
I don't know what to think either, first I've heard of this and I don't know who this guy is.

Me too, he has e-mailed me three times. No news of who he is or the validity of his requests. Can't see any harm in what he has asked though.

Guys - just make sure you don't send anything other than pics... :)

Do as much research on this as you can. If he is asking for you to send him high resolution photographs, they cost a lot to have done, I would be very hesitant.

Even Cheapie cameras these days can take a 5 megapixel high resolution image, so it's not expensive to have "detailed enough for print use" digital images, though yeah with the big quality difference of a pro and pro gear that's another thing (and can make all the difference in showing the knife), but high resolution images anybody can provide fairly easy.

Willing to give away the rights to photos of ones work for an unknown purpose / result / context etc, that is a legitimate question to be clarified...

Yes, anyone can take high resolution photos, but can they take a photo that is something they would want in a book? Most people don't have a clue about proper lighting, and how to set the background so that the photo looks good. That is why so many makers have Coop, Point Seven Studios, or one of the other top notch photographers photograph their knives for them. I know I wouldn't want any photo that I have taken to appear in quality publication.

Coop, you are correct my friend. It is well worth it.

I agree on researching it, but how???

The photos he attached to the email were from BladeGallery, so would want to get clearance from Daniel first anyway. I just wanted to see if anyone here had heard of it.

I'm glad to hear a couple makers that I KNOW, have gotten a request from this fellow as well.

Thanks for the input everyone! :D

If he wanted existing work that has already been finished, then it's a no-brainer. ANY work you put into posterity will be a reward (unless it's crummy work.) I'd tell him "Please do!"

Now if he wants fresh photos, welllll...., you have a whole 'nuther ballgame. As you might need to contact collectors, or even create a new piece. What was he asking for, specifically?

I like the idea. Lucky you!
