I think of it as a big general kitchen utility knife.

Sweet knife! That is some gorgeous burl.
Is the shotgun shell there for size reference?

Yes it is there for a referance. It was in the light box from a photo of an "Every Day Carry" knife shot before. And also duck season starts in less than a week so that may have been on my mind:)

A damascus kitchen knife? Haven't seen that before. I think damascus is a great steel, but is more for gentleman's folders than kitchen knives. It makes the knife look like something you'd carry.

Awesome looking kitchen blade. JMJones you do some really beautiful work!

Was that a bit of sarcasm:) Damascus steel seems to be almost a given when it comes to higher end kitchen knives these days, especially those made in Japan. I can think of quite a few brands that make damascus kitchen knives(Boker, Shun, Almar...etc). The great thing about damascus is that besides looking pretty it also performs very well. IMO perfect for the kitchen:)

No sarcasm at all, I have only had experience with relatively cheap Fiskars and random no-name kitchen knives with satin stainless blades.
