I have been using a cheaper (not highly reviewed) double edge razor for a few months now, coupled with a Col. Conk mug and lime soap, and a real badger hair brush. I can never go back now, this is the way we should have always done it. Be damned with disposables now, I can not go back to using them.

I also use regular Which Hazel as after shave. I am reading up on other methods of skin conditioning. I feel like this should have been part of Health class at some point, it's a damn shame some of the things we could lose in just a generation.

I got Merkur blades this time.

Merkur blades are good, but they are also, at just about every site, the most expensive blades on offer. Merkur blades are good, but I think you can do better for less cost.

if you ever want a good quality (as in higher reviews) razor, check out your local antique shops, i found a 60s gillette fatboy in great condition this way (among others) it is in great condition, and it shaves great

I will read more reviews and try some different blades in accord. I was pretty sure merkur wasn't reviewed anywhere I looked online. And yet it was the only blade available in my local blade shop. I might buy a DE online now, but for my first I had to hold it before purchase. So thats how it unfolded.

Thank you all for the assurances on my first blades.

Glad to hear you're pleased with the results Ron, Conk is very reasonable soap too (although costly here in the EU)

I've found that my skin's appearance and condition has improved VASTLY since going back to DE (not to mention the quality/closeness of shave delivered) I believe it's using a brush and non aerosol creams or soaps.

Use of blade is very personal, once you find one that suits you will stick to it. Feather rules my roost, none better.
