Pete,
The Deradhune has almost the same profile as ASTK so you ain't too far.
The front heavy design is the purpose of having a khuk. You want to have a good weight but the fulcrum with the front heavy will tilt the blade effectively towards the chop, causing an inertial force towards the surface you want to chop.Let the mechanism does the job but not the weight.

I love this knife.

My first impression was "Holy Cow!" It is a very exotic piece.

I'm not sure of the handle construction. It has a rounded butt plate with two bumps like weld marks on it that attach smoothly to the tang, as opposed to just having a tang with handle slabs attached like I've seen elsewhere (such as on the ASTK). I am curious as to whether it is a true full tang or something different.

As far as the balance goes, it will obviously out-chop anything else I currently have.
I can also see how it could be extremely dangerous to swing indiscriminately, it has a lot of mass.

I love the fit and finish.

At any rate, I have already just purchased my second HI piece; an elk-horn kerambit by Kami Kumar off the exchange.

I think I'm hooked.

Bill

The two weld bumps are probably where the tang has been peened over the buttcap to aid in retention.

Elk horn Kerambit made by Kumar???!?!?.....you did REAL good:cool:

Some folks are all about Bura. Some about Sher. Kumar was my main man:thumbup:

Hey Bill,

It is a true full tang. Some are peened with one nub to hold the buttcap on, some have two. There are even some older khukuri out there with three, which is supposed to represent Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) and its associate ranges. And to address your question about the pinning (i know i saw it somewhere) Yes, it is fuctional and helps hold your handle slabs on along with the Laha.
