New Design Specifications

Here is my current collection of GSO knives:

I have not purchased a Survive! knife in some time now, and I see that on the website specifications have changed, even on the GSO 4.1, 5.1, 7/7 and 10, all of which I have the older models. The GSO 10 blade has grown from 3/16 (0.1875) to 0.200. The GSO 7/7 shrunk from 3/16" to 0.180", and the 5.1 has shrunk slightly from 3/16" to 0.850". The GSO 4.1 I thought was 5/32" or 0.156", and is now 0.160". I know that there has been a handle re-design, and old scales will be going out of production. I have a lot of catching up to do, so I am wondering if there are some discussions here that y'all can point me to describing these changes in design. The steel width might just be as simple as a different supplier, but I don't know for sure. Any assistance as to the thought processes behind these design changes would be greatly appreciated.

You brought up a good question for sure. I'm wondering if it's to save weight, change grind geometry, adjust balance points or to change the overall flexibility of each knife. Im hoping one of the bosses will see this and share a little insight!

I'm interested to see what Guy or Ellie might say.

Everything Guy does seems to have a well thought out reason behind it, so I have a feeling all the changes had a very specific purpose to improve the function of the knife.

I know Guy has mentioned in various threads, maybe on FB that a lot of the tweaks were just that, tweaks. I believe the 4.7 was made because he felt the 5 was a little too beefy for the size knife it was, and of course many changes due to ergonomic adjustments. I don't know if there has been a single area addressing all knife changes though. I would bet most changes simply came from feedback from users.

Either way I'm glad to see the evolution of this brand is going in a positive direction. They definitely aren't afraid of change!
Not that there's anything wrong with what we all have now.

As far as the handle redesign, some of the thoughts on that came from a review chiral.grolim did. IIRC there was a 5.1 and a swamprat HRLM in it, maybe another blade as well. I'll take a look, see if I can post a link.

ETA: the move to unskeletonized tangs was discussed, but I am not finding where that was posted. Anybody else remember where that was?

I am really glad to see that chiral.grolim is still around and posting. His reviews are always very thoughtful, objective and very helpful. Thanks for the link.
